One of the most important things he wants to teach us is how to unbind libidinal energy and, this is important, to direct it all into cerebral activity, so none leaks out into other, lower drives, and none is dissipated in rituals of self-abasement and self-destruction.

So it is a method of gaining access to your own thermonuclear energy resources and commanding them, not being overwhelmed by them. Once you can do this you eliminate all depressive tendencies.

I do think its possible to bootstrap yourself out of depression. In my case, science helps quite a bit, especially when paired with certain spiritual practices. Appreciating just how swiftly and subtly your attention can be swept up and carried away along some pathic roller coaster, a ride that go on indefinitely if you don't know how to activate the brakes. At its extremes its like being stuck in a francis bacon painting, but thankfully I've only experienced brief spells of that.

The scientific part of it involves understanding emotion as a high order function of physical machines, organic machines that are ineluctably bound to certain evolutionary trajectories. Putting things in such a vast perspective almost instantaneously quells any otherwise swelling depression.

the founding principle is second-order pragmatism. first-order pragmatism is to do whatever works. second-order pragmatism is to do whatever works to enable whatever works. everything else follows from this,

it's not difficult to then extrapolate humans doing whatever they can to enable suprahuman entities to do whatever works in their turn.

Founding document of second order pragmatix.

where does cybernetics come into it? well, imagine that famous box that turns itself on when you press a button. you are the first order. the hand in the box is the second order.

Perks of being insane. Unbound by the actual tenability of certain tasks. Negative feedback is harnessed and processed by a vast schizo-psychic reactor. Preclusion of demotivation, every limit merely an obstacle to be overcome, etc, hence all the talk about capitalism being a heuristic ideologization of basic physical dynamics. Heuristic, so not perfect. Room for distillation yet.

One of the reasons we need this thread is that you can't read his posts, they just interrupt the flow of conversation, they're annoying, they're too long and too dense and often irrelevant to the subject at hand. They irritate you. You glaze over and shut down.

This is why they need to be taken out of that context and put into this context of devoted study and exegesis.

one of the operating principles of dissensus is that we always fall into line with whoever is divinely inspired at the time and do whatever we can to facilitate their work. we put ourselves in the service of their project recognising the divine mandate when we see it.

we also recognise the opposite tendency in ourselves, the human desire to tear down anyone who has made a temporary or constant escape from the usual human parameters and constraints.

Imagine some kind of mechanical satellite drifting through space, and there are several dozen thrusters around its perimeter-sphere. Each one, individually, moves in a unique direction, quality, and exerts a certain force, quantity. And yet, these thrusters can be harmoniously programmed to steer the satellite - by having many adjacent thrusters activate simultaneously, their averaged direction is where the satellite moves. By activating a thruster that is aimed against that average direction, we can program for resistance of deceleration.

for me one focus is the need to avoid the crash. there are known dangers, rocks to be reefed or broken on and other people, here thrusters which, ideally, mitigate and make micro-adjustments, to an agreed line of flight/escape path, operate in concord, even when in opposition in service to the higher order, ie, dissensus

but in practice these oppositions aren't always possible to resolve by appeal to that higher order. when establishing an direction of travel, a route, a speed etc certain archetypal oppositions arise, tween risk and caution for instance, opposed and irresolvable tensions which destroy the whole project scuppered. on an individual level this perhaps plays out differently with one impulse overcommitted to and leading to ultimate DESTRUCTION! hubris punishment start again from scratch

and as the model here is so clearly the market the crash is the paradigmatic danger. but also on the individual level. how we manage invest spend our libidinal resources

my sense has always been that if dissensus and a purpose it is as a place for star craft pilots who have escaped central command control to some extent and gone off the astral reservation.

a place to say here is my data log does it confirm your own findings here are the dangers i have found please be careful here are some things i have foun d ueful when in the unmapped regions

this has always been tacit but for me foundational. that we are steering these craft through the unmapped but by finding each other and communicating about hat e find and experience it proves the reality of those regions and puts us in the position to establi9sh a true and hopefully lasting group psychosis

no. one of the most valubale things about stan is the density and the resistance it offers. you have to pit yourself against that resistance and shatter it.

i feel very tender towards dissensus when i remember it is comprised of brave navigators in their fragile star craft sending communiques back from the unmapped regions
