Yeah its why albums dont always work (coming from someone drawn to grime by dizzees second album) same reason people cant grasp on first exposure. Because its local beef music, reactive and contextual, timely and urgent and propelled in a different way to how most music is distributed

Yep and linked to that immediacy, what I really love about Wiley's mcing in this era is that it sounds pretty much like he's talking to himself, or at most to people who know him really really well.

Like that line in the Friday Night tune i posted "I'm not one of them boys from the past who don't have the answers" (a line which he used loads around this time ). It's a fucking great lyric and it's so oblique. Like who's he talking about ? What don't they have the answer to? You know he's being super specific but he's not spelling it out.

So the whole thing kinda scans like the short hand and allusions you get in an internal monologue or rants at a mate.

trim was very good at this sort of thing too.
