That said, the tainting by association stuff gets reified from being a clue to being damning on its own fact separate from particulars. Consulting for Palantir Might be problematic but the details matter a whole lot more than the fact alone.

A transition official said Haines was “primarily focused on [Palantir's] diversity and inclusion efforts, particularly increasing gender diversity” and that she “mentored some of the company’s remarkable young women and suggested ways in which the company might promote diversity and inclusion.”

That's the goal of 'woke capitalism' really. It isn't equality, it's having people from all sorts of backgrounds torturing people for the CIA, spying on the public, laundering money etc.

If it is as they say that she worked on their diversity efforts then it is hard for me to take issue.

The world is morally complicated, if we expect simple black and white morality from politicians we will end up with perfect resume builders rather than effective decision makers.

Good people worked in the Trump administration despite reputational damage because they knew there was a simple selection algorithm at play: as the competent and morally observing self-select out, only the incompetent and immoral are left in.

What I mean is the same thing Mark means when he talks about the reification of problematic speech. "hmm that's a little sketchy, it might indicate a larger attitude" --> "no, they're definitely X-ist context be damned"

If I wear an old threadbare suit it's a good indicator I'm not wealthy. But it doesn't mean I'm not!

But they're women!!
This is one of the more unfortunate positions taken by establishment-friendly ostensible social progressives. Like the image suffices despite lack of substance, or whatever.

Yeah what you said about indicators.

Demographically speaking, and in terms of representation, Harris as VP is an achievement for social progress. Beyond that, her positive distinctions from predecessors seem less obvious to me. To say the least. But again, I lack sufficient information to really plant my feet here or there on the matter

Americans are living through the restoration of their deposed oligarchy. President-elect Joe Biden has nominated a Treasury secretary who used to chair the Federal Reserve. His choice for secretary of state is another Ivy Leaguer and fixture of Washington. His top economic adviser is an executive at BlackRock.
This is from the FT btw obviously I didn't write it
