This dedication to Ghostbusters is really impressive.

I've got a similar thing going on with Master and Commander, as you might have noticed.

master and commander is like the return to innocence. i was telling my friend and he loves it, he recc'd this thing called black sails to me, it's the prequel to treasure island

There's definitely something appealing to small boys (and bigger boys in whom the smaller boy lies dormant) about swashbuckling seafaring etc.

I'd say the books are grittier than the film in some respects - there's stuff in it about pederasty and sodomy, for example. And more political stuff such as Jack Aubrey reflexively hating Papists.

sounds OK but i'm not sure i would ever read them, but will maybe file away for a rainy day. i normally wouldn't really like a film like master and commander, i'd be very snooty about it, but lockdown has reset my aesthetic lenses especially film and tv. i favour middlebrow and trash over anything too heavy atm.

There is an attendant guilt for me when I'm reading something that's more entertaining than profound.

Good to read on holiday I suppose.

i love it when i pick something up at random thinking 'no way will i read all this' and then i do... cos readin gthe things on 'the list' can feel like work and make things that should be fun into a job...

the last random thing i read all the way through and really liked cos of that was probably the alan moore comic, providence. although there must have been something else after that as well but i can't remember now.

Any full grown adult male who's not a gay who claims to be really into pop music is a pedo. That's a fact.

It's like being really into Disney cartoons, or drinking milkshakes. Obvious pedo.
