Yeah he's only invited the Americans, in the hope that some of our hegemonic mojo will rub off on him.

He sounds like a fucking nightmare.
One time when he was in Helsinki he saw a homeless man begging in winter, it goes to minus 30 or something in winter, sleeping on the street is a death sentence. So my friend approached him and spoke to him, he discovered that he was indeed homeless and so he decided he just couldn't leave him - he invited him home, gave him a coffee, some soup probably, maybe an elk steak, I dunno. He gave him warm clothes and said he could stay in the spare bedroom... in the he gave him a key, looked him in the eye and said "stay as long as you need my friend" in a deep manly voice. The guy did stay for a few days lounging around enjoying not being dead until one day my friend returned to find out that he had fucked off and taken the key. But it was fine I'm sure.
Whereas your best (I assume) mate hates poor people and probably only hangs around with you cos you were at school together and he hasn't thought of a way to ditch you yet... which one is the fucking nightmare?

All of that is true but my mate is containable and I can put him back in his box once we've had our once a year beer

He's not going to whip his cock out on public transport or do anything weird or unpredictable. I don't want to be anywhere near people who are congenitally disinhibitied. No weirdos.

Well, the truth is, people are complex and made up of good and bad. Sometimes he and I would debate politics and economics and other rarefied topics over a fantastic bottle of wine while he whipped up some insanely rich food. Sometimes he would be saving a man's life or risking his own life for some noble cause... other times he would be... well, he did some things that arguably didn't reflect quite so well on hi. Same as all of us I imagine.

Anyway @yyaldrin you will be pleased to know that he is doing well, he has finally got a buyer for the flat in Tottenham, he is fully back in Helsinki and he and M are giving it another go (again). Also they have bought a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Isla - almost like the she wolf of the SS but not quite - so I would say that the future looks good!

Craner is flying to Wisconsin next week to stay in our guest unit, to see our beautiful lake landscape at its peak of beauty in winter, and I will ask him in person whether he's willing to make financial amends for whatever damages he's caused Corpsey

is not like other people
i've met this finnish bloke quite a few times too and always found him quite charming or straight faced funny in that finnish way and never seen any hint of extreme behaviour. he did tell me that chucking-his-clothes-at-police story though and obviously knew it was a really silly story.

He's a nice, he's my friend, of course I stick up for him. I'm not always that keen on his significant other to be honest, you always have to make sure of the latest situation before you start talking about her in case they've got back together. Did you ever go to parties where she would get incredibly drunk and literally insist that the music was turned off and everyone had to sit there and watch her do interpretative dance?

But he's a good man, I've realised that I miss him. I'm glad that this thread catalysed my email and that are back in touch just like that.

I'd just like to chip in that I really fucking love the guy too, he's a totally solid character and an absolute individual.
