The pit.

With poetry, for example, I'd really like to have a natural receptivity to it, to be able to read it and write it, it would really play into my egocentric desire to be a special intellectual visionary type and not just a mediocre wanker.
i think everybody can relate to this, the pit mentality takes those two versions of yourself, intellectual visionary and mediocre wanker, and convinces you they are concrete immutable consistent selves. and naturally youre the mediocre wanker.

whereas its probably more accurate that from moment to moment you can shift between those two poles and all other potential selves in a contradictory fashion, and that your capacity to reach the intellectual visionary state is not necessarily hampered by the amount of time you've previously spent in the mediocre wanker position.

the intellectual visionary state is an imaginative commons to which we are all entitled otherwise it doesn't exist at all. its very difficult to imagine what our notion of intellectual visionary state would be if we hadn't all been raised with centuries of propaganda about what this state entails, what it really, authentically looks like, and how it doesn't apply to people like you. but most people get fleeting experiences of it now and again despite not calling it that. you often have to try and force it a bit though, do something that might make you look like a mug, definitely very pretentious. i have found posting here helpful for it.

obviously there are all sorts of good reasons to not spend your life flogging yourself for not being as much of a visionary as youd like to be, and any "art scene" in history has its lampoonable elements to be avoided. but the embarassing aspects of these have more to do with the delusional egotistic repercssions on people who think they are "really living" by being in proximity to what passes for art. not with having a stab at making something more of your life than regular joe by trying to get into poetry.

Again, this thing of making it objective, solidifying it, so it becomes more and more real

yeah, when i say making something more of your life that is only in the sense of responding to a fleeting glimpse of the grand vision you've previously sensed, in any stunted, embryonic fashion

i mean it doesn't hurt to try, you can spend a week trying really hard to read jerusalem and feeling like a twat and still go back to work as staff coordinator for tk maxx on monday

orienting your life towards that point, so that that bursting through is what gives meaning and value. Not that you aren't also human, or that love is of secondary importance. But it's always there waiting to be noticed.

And if you give it value, by noting it, by giving it form in this world, as a pattern of words or something else

yes well its on an absolute level playing field as being human and love and all sorts of problems arise from putting it on a pedestal. not to say that it isnt also of paramount importance above all other things

I certainly don't want to say anyone can write as well as me, that's a terrifying thought but I do think that if you listen to kumars wisdom anyone can be a great artist and foment a renaissance and world transformation

when i was a bit younger i probably got overwhelemed and put off by the idea that there are millions of idiots with logic pro all over the world dedicating all their free time to making electronic music, and that there might be a problem in that, that maybe that was not a sign of a healthy culture, and that in that context spending all day on logic pro might be a misguided path. people from barnet cant be on logic! but then i realised that it was important to completely disregard that common sense and resist the idea that millions of other idiots doing the same thing might impinge on your vital communication in the imaginative commons. you are one of the millions of idiots and you have to take your mission seriously.
