Drove to Newcastle recently to deposit the daughter at Uni. The A1 is bleak. Sex shops near garages that look depressing as fuck. Wettest day in recorded history when we got there.

Car hire place central was closed despite being told the contrary. Drop off at deserted Newcastle airport for serious Ballard vibes.

Train home. Better.

Ambition is critical

@sufi I can almost plot by memory all the shit service stations along the M1 through pickled, barely able to talk, drug lenses.

Spud U Like and The Golden Egg were the chain restaurants we ate at. Wimpey later on, once they'd invented the bean burger (see vegeburger thread)

Tebay is really good! Probably one of the top service stations ever. Lots of nice scenery and good food.

Birch and Sandbach are also fine as far as i remember.

Anyone read the cortazar book where him and his wife go for a holiday around service stations? One of the psychogeography bibles, before it was such a thing

Cullompton has a McDonald's now, last time I went there there were 40 min to an hour queues, people visiting from all around. you could barely class it as a service station before that.
