The problem everyone on dissensus has with Matthew and retreat (of course we love and revere him, but) is the anti drug stance. everyone here is pro drugs. To insanity and beyond. Self immolation. Otherwise, great book, lots of fun.

everyone interviewed for the book (apart from germaine greer who didn't volunteer an opinion) said how great they thought psychedelics were. and i kept those statements in every time.

there is an element of me trying to strike a balance - as well my natural inclination to be wary of overstating their value/centrality.

these people were the ones who prospered after psychedelics, possibly the more solid folk, where there were a great deal of skip spences, roky eriksons, and charles mansons.

Have any of you read the white hotel by dm thomas? I'm sure we've talked about it on here before. Brilliant novel, it inspired the name of the club in Salford that I used to go to alot. They painted the place white as a tribute. Anyway, in relation to Freud as a fiction writer, this is what dm thomas says at the beginning of the book, that he considers Freuds case histories to be the greatest works of literature of the twentieth century.
