The licensed music is on the whole, awful. Such a missed opportunity.
yeah they should have accepted me fookin submission (they have not, couple of mates have their music in it although the key was kinda strict ie. electro industrial, seriously?)

Feels like a game made by people who never really 'got' electronic music... beyond listening to mainstream bro-step. Except for the guy in charge of atmospherics who has done the best he could under difficult circumstances.

I've continued to play this through gritted teeth. Through endless crashes and repetitive gang confrontations. I will get my monies worth out of this. I will get my platinum trophy.

It looks great. The city on the surface ticks every box. But that's all there is, a veneer of beauty over nothing. It's a cyperpunk city screenshot creation device. No depth, nothing behind the millions of locked doors. Endlessly repeated assets. (How many ashtrays and packs of cards are lying around in the future? a few in every alley it appears). Wooden zombies wondering aimlessly, unable to navigate a road or climb steps. They say nothing.

Sub-Fallout 3 missions... go here, kill this person. Go here, collect this computer file. There are rare moments of good storytelling; Silverhand standing over his unmarked grave in a Bladerunner industrial wasteland of firestacks and rumbling spinners overhead. These sections only serve to highlight how poorly everything else has been cobbled together.

I will buy PGA 2K21 next, putt a ball around a green and stop wishing for games that don't really exist.

that's very sad to hear especially considering how good the plot/storytelling in witcher is, cdpr could have done well. but they haven't.

The ball is too small. Played pitch and putt last summer and lost a few balls. Par 3's style public gaff, just twat it on the green and putt

Play on by all means, but when the Revolution comes i've already allocated my chairmanship to the "Golf - A Justifiable Use of Land?" committee

Hurling is the only cool game with sticks, except raising kids in England means the youngest is spellbound by cricket. The ancestors have had a word......i can't win and am resigned to existential exile

These places that paint the grass green, what's that all about? @Mellsman

I got a hole-in-one on a pitch and putt once, it was all downhill and I just whacked it with a putter from the tee and it flew low and hard to the green and disappeared from view - thought it had gone off the back but on arrival it was actually in the hole. My friend had promised a pint to anyone who got a hole-in-one but he tried to weasel out of it by claiming that I had broken the rules of "pitch and putt" by only putting... I retorted (fairly conclusively I thought) that there was no way that you could both pitch and putt if you got down in one and he had to stump up..

Full Disclosure - i worked w WG from the time i called him up up to the screening of Johnny M.
And did love the early ones - BC through Mona Lisa Overdrive.
John Shirley introduced us.
I / we ( Black Rain ) were more or less de facto music directors for the man.
BEB released parts of the Neuromancer ( Audio Book ) and Johnny Mnemonic sdtks we did bk in that day.
In 1984 we were setting up a cyberpunk event for Tokyo when a concerned young lady informed us a J ad guy told her "cyberpunk already happened ".
In 1990's one of the illbient crew didn't quite get it when i said "cyberpunk ? that already happened ?"
Being he was from W Virginia / Virginia, we got along straight off and took from each other for those years.
There would have been a proper movie ( directed by Sogo Ishii who later did the Halber Mensch video w ENB ), there WAS an SRL video w Bruce Sterling' text.
Unfinished bug wars video game again w Bruce' text.

And i worked on Johnny for years and years , did a tech rewrite, introduced main cats, choose which story for Longo to do, did the first music edit - and got bought out when Sony took it over, thinking because Keanu was in it it was bound to be a hit right ?
Wrong, and i got up out the screening theatre chair wiping one tear , joined up w Jack Womack, we found Gibsey and we all walked out muttering to ourselves.
Well, if not for Keanu in that movie- he would not have been in Matrix !
Haha, let alone this videogame i keep hearing ppl rag on ...
Haven't seen nor heard it and have zero interest.

Gibsey's next ones lost me ( even the one which had hijacked the story we were going to use for the Sogo movie ), the ones that followed those were not much use either. Guy gave way too much cred or pages to UK 'marketing types' and at one point said " There is no underground ".

When Bono's crew was added to the Neuromancer Audio Book sdtk , i thought
"That's a sign - time to get out".

More recent cyberpunk / biopunk that was worthy ?

It is worth noting that the game itself is not forward-facing, but instead an awkward homage to what the 80's thought cyberpunk was. For a modern game its tropes are very tired, outdated, out of time. Mirror sunglasses. Leather jackets. CRT screens. Metal arms. There is nothing new here.

Maybe younger people born in this millenium don't even realise they are being served up 80s science fiction.

Was this the "Now I'm Just A Number: Soundtracks 1994-95" compilation?

Yes indeed. Recently we went through the old tapes and plan on re issuing more , esp. from Neuromancer. On that old Audio Book, the soundtracks were mixed well down under William's narration, so hats off to Kiran S @ BEB for spotting.
