There's a great line in The Sopranos where Tony's daughter says something like "you know he was killed by an overweight guy in see through socks" or somethng like that. You can imagine the wheezing, sweaty killer when she says it.

Saw an interview with Gandolfini where he said that he looked around during filming Sopranos and thought "who is gonna watch a load of fat old Italian guys eating bbq?" - but of course a lot of people wanna watch precisely that. There is always something quite scary and interesting about stupid bad guys which you can see are older, uglier, less glamorous than you... but which can beat you up or kill you all the same.
