Certainly an issue, namely how to reconcile such ostensibly negative developments with the ostensibly positive developments of social progress, egalitarian progress, however slight and incremental.
One of the reasons I think the social left needs to open up avenues for a will to power, one that can prove to be an effective alternative to the traditional, boundless-libidinal route that fascism boasts.
Doesn't feel impossible, just insane. Hence my tolerance of and proclivity for insanity, hubris, etc. - such things that can afford greater volumes or surpluses of ambition, vitality, etc.

It's weird, I've had gay/lesbian mates, my nephew's gay, hated the fash PE teachers who made my childhood a misery, can't even fight that well unless I'm in kamikaze mode, never once occurred to me to worry about trans people in the toilet etc etc - but I see some bloke on Twitter in a cardigan with a smug grin tweeting "FFS men - be better" - and I just want him to get battered outside a kebab shop.

I suppose the kind of excellence I have in mind is a sort of sublime exposure to the sheer potential of excellence, societal and individual. This is the sort of thing that fascism would bank on, from what I gather, but I'm not convinced it has a monopoly on boundless libido.
Its clearly what works with Trump. The capacity to say fuck off to those asking you to compromise. My idea is nearly the polar opposite though. Seems to take more of a wu wei approach, yielding to the currents which you find yourself in, becoming increasingly imperturbable by virtue of sequestering "your" energy reserves beyond you, investing in trends on higher timescales, eternal timescales.

These things are usually easier said than done. You have to demonstrate as opposed to explain. Trump enacted what he stood for, he didn't expound on it. The way he insulted the republicans in the, what do you call it, the race for the nomination bit. That was supreme. Best political performance since Clinton played the sax on Arsenio Hall. Rewrote the rule book. Loved it.
