On a serious note, though, what should Hollom have done?

Gone up to the biggest common sailor on deck and slapped him in the face?

Been a man. Projected dominance. Channel alpha energy. Watch Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogen videos. Get swole. Read Nietzsche and Bronze Age pervert. Go on the lion diet. Nofap November. Cold showers each morning. Bench press.

My dad was going on about that story recently and claimed the US lost "because they were all sat around talking about Critical Race Theory,". I think he's been reading too much of The Telegraph.

I realized yesterday, Master & Commander is maybe the only film I know that presents mentorship/succession relationships between older and younger generations in a remotely healthy way

You have Show Girls—all the sexploitation, younger Nomi tripping older Crystal to break her leg, take the lead dance role. Orson's Other Side of the Wind—look at how they despise each other underneath the friendship, the way the veiled insults of their banter is actually serious. Succession—as fucked up a family as possible, the father-child relationships complete garbage. Three Women—well, I don't need to explain the plot of Three Women.

Jordan Poole/Steph Curry feels like a pretty wholesome relationship from the outside but who knows, and besides, that's real life! That's sports! That's not art!

Lucky Jack—what a lucky guy, he makes his own luck, being so good to his younger mentees, like First Lieutenant James D'Arcy

I've not seen that prison film with Morgan Freeman but I've got a feeling he's a benevolent mentor

Im thinking about watching master and commander and there will be blood on succesive nights and understanding everything there is to know about masculinity.

You could add to the texture by watching something like witchfinder general or eraserhead which may give you a different perspective to those two on the central theme of masculinity.

Havent seen witchfinder general but the struggle of eraserhead is covered in master and commander. Thats the beauty of the film - lucky jack faces every trial a man can go through. There will be blood is masculinitys negative image.
