That rabid sideline bit actually was good coaching even if silly looking. The guys he were yelling at definitely knew what they were supposed to be doing lmao

I imagine the mavs got him him really good staff. In pre season interviews he made alot of comments about comitee style coaching and the mavs have always been big on a analytics. Also brought Lukas Slovenian coach who's supposed to be a wizard with the progressive schemes so it could be all kidd has to do is take good advice (which to his credit nba coaches are often very bad at) and focus on motivation

Game is on @ gym. Wasn't watching but went to check the score and it was like 72-34. Almost certainly the craziest scoreline I've ever seen in an NBA game. Luka tied the entire Suns team by HIMSELF in the 1st half? Like I've been a huge Luka fan since day one, but what in the fuck is happening? To the Suns, really. Don't think I've ever seen a more intense collapse. They're never gonna live this down. CP3 is old, w/o him they're not a serious contender, so this could well be their title window done. Just wild.

Damn but Phx has a long history of fun teams that couldn't quite get it done. I'm old enough to remember the early 90s Chuck/KJ/Majerle squad, and ofc the 7 Seconds or Less era when they could never get past Tim Duncan (the year Amare got suspended for coming off the bench after Robert Horry tried to take Steve Nash's head off was particularly brutal). This is 100x worse ofc.

Getting blown out by 40+ AT HOME, while you're big 3 score a combined hot 26 points is grim. Drafting Ayton over Luka was some Sam Bowie level shit (Bagley is way worse still tbf but he's not out here getting crushed by Luka in a Game 7, AT HOME).

WCF should be fun as hell tho

W/Klay having lost a step idk if the Dubs have anyone who can really bother Luka unless Payton can come back at full speed. Iguadala is old and Draymond has to QB the entire defense.

Then again I don't think the Mavs can do much at all to stop The Splash Bros + Jordan Poole.

I'm not particularly a Mavs fan but I was big Dirk guy too - 2011 Game 5 when he came out and out it to the Heat after Dwade and LBJ mocked him for being sick (seriously) is one of my fave sports memories - so I've been a de facto Mavs fan for most of the past 20 years

Dirk out there dapping Luka up after the game, the two greatest European players in NBA history

After games 1 and 2 I was convinced the mavs wouldn't take it more than 5. Turns out all they had to do was show two defenders to every ball handler and the sun's collapsed. Cp3 is too old and got tired out and booker doesn't have the frame to handle that physicality as the main guy for a full game. And surprisingly bad ball movement from the sun's role players, just incapable of making a swing pass

Yeah GPII being injured was a big blow on the defensive end for the reasons you say

They're supposed to be the deepest team in the league which is part of why it's so weird that doubling shut them down so bad. I mean, I know Jae Crowder and Ayton aren't all-world type players in a vacuum, but within the PHX system, they're pretty good producers.

think alot of this is on the rules of the league. theyre officiated so differently it may as well be two different games. Harden being possibly the greatest regular season scorer of all time and then becoming pedestrian in the playoffs being the obvious example. much harder to rough up finesse perimeter players in the regular season compared to playoffs. biggest factor probably CP3 being old and possibly injured though.

Right, Curry always looks quieter in playoffs because he's being physically mauled

This is interesting.
Which games are officiated differently, the normal season and the play-offs?
Is that just your feeling or is it a kind of open secret? Or is it even an acknowledged policy?

Do you have two separate leagues NBA? How is the refereeing consistency across them?
