It is ridiculous how many hints are dropped throughout the film. You suddenly think back on all these comments and moments like "Of course!".

Corpsey

bandz ahoy
I did actually watch it last night. It was decent, but it's all story. There's no flair whatsoever to Nolan's direction. It's so lifeless and grey. The soundtrack's the same.

That's interesting, I've been so focused on the shortcomings of the writing that I've not even thought about the direction.

One thing Nolan does really well is coming up with memorable images,
- or should that be concepts?

Like the fight in Inception where they're crawling and walking along the walls and ceiling. All the Joker stuff in Dark Knight (the burning pile of cash, the hospital exploding behind him). The planet in Interstellar with frozen clouds.

There's images in The Prestige I remember, too. The hats, the water tank, etc.

Jackman's fate's so extreme and so shocking that it overshadows the fact Bale drives his wife to suicide for the sake of his act.

Say what you want about Nolan, but some of his films have taken that sheer blockbuster cinematicity to another level. All the imagery that @Corpsey pointed out. Surely the deeply dramatic scores are a major factor here.

Also, did you guys know Kenneth Branagh was in Tenet?

I found the machine really jarring. It must be a trick, but it isn't.
Yeah I do like how the machine develops the theme of how, if the audience thought the tricks were real, they'd be horrified. And its intersection with the contention they don't really want to know how it works, that they distract or fool themselves even when the answer is obvious. (Which is what Angiers does, disbelieving Caine's contention that Borden must be using a body double.)

Realizing that I've spelled "Borden" almost every conceivable way in this thread except the actual way it's spelled. Burton, Burden, Bordon.
