I think I'm right in saying that two films about magicians came out at almost the same time didn't they? What was the other one?
Also, Michael Caine was in a film called Now You See Me a few years later about magicians doing bank robberies and stuff using their magic powers. It was on telly here once, it's a very bad film. One of those ones where the protagonists are supposed to be likable and cheeky as they laughingly outwit The Man or whatever, but in fact, they come across as sickeningly smug, so fucking slick and smarmily smug that it's almost impossible to watch. I find this a problem in a lot of films these days to be honest, I dunno if I'm just older and more irritable of if they are just getting worse at writing characters that you can both be impressed by and like at the same time - which I suppose is a bit of a tricky line to walk, but yesterday there was a film called 21 about card counters playing blackjack and at the start the voiceover from the guy you're supposed to be rooting for saying "I have a special mind" had me half way across the room rolling up my sleeves to start punching the screen before I remembered that it was just a movie... I digress, sorry.
Anyway, point is, I'm thinking about checking out some of these films that are big on dissensus but which I've never seen - that's The Prestige and Master and Commander... er, any others?
