I'm really really looking forward to being a teetotaller now though all my internal organs hurt and I've aged 10 years this winter.

listened to the Roisin Murphy/Kylie/Jessie Ware

I like the Murphy album but haven't been grabbed by snippets of the others I've hear online, are they worth investigating? also, if you haven't heard horse meat disco "love and devotion", give it a go.

the Kylie album is completely inconsequential, very pleasant and likeable but it was the third time I've heard it and most of barely stuck. The Jessie Ware is good in a deliberately anonymous way, I like it as much as the Murphy album but even though they're both doing similar things they're also very different in their approach. We also had on the Dua Lipa for a bit but I really struggle with that bombastic, mid-range production - "Physical" is great and she's got a really charismatic presence vocally but the sounds are so cheap and the album does a disservice to her, I think it's going to sound really dated really quickly.

I've been meaning to give HMD a listen. Back in the days you could go clubbing they would come to Glasgow four times a year and we would never miss it because they're really fun DJs. But I also look at an 80-minute twelve-track album and feel overwhelmed, I wish they had put a mixed version for home listening to go with what I assume are DJ-friendly extended tracks.

it's not going to change the world but for that whole modern/retro disco genre, it's a pretty solid album even at that length (which includes an 8:00 remix of a previous track). can't go wrong with a couple of tunes with Amy Douglas on vocals either.

kind of in the same vein, also check out the two Crooked Man albums. Sheffield producer Richard Barrett/DJ Parrot (and one-half of Sweet Exorist with Richard H. Kirk), who produced that Roisin Murphy album. Douglas sings on a few tracks.

I really like Amy Douglas, she has such remarkable presence on everything I've heard her sing on. She wrote one of the Murphy album tracks after going on a mad bender with her too, apparently.
