'served with chips in the hole' is an option I've never seen before but it makes a lot of intuitive sense.

In Manchester they have these things called chip naans. You guessed it. Never seen them anywhere else. The only other places that might do them are Glasgow and liverpool

we dont seem to have the same cross cultural collisions and creative mash ups in London. very conservative city when it comes to the takeaway scene.

It's true. Terrible fish and chips in London as well. Shockingly bad. The only decent takeaway I had in London was proper donner in green lanes and Chinese in nw

there's something really northern about these place names. that boney, tussocky, windy, barren poetry of the north. thin hard rocky soils.

BRIGG, WRAWBY, ELSHAM, WORLABY, BONBY, CADNEY, HOWSHAM, NORTH KELSEY, SOMERBY, GRASBY, HIBALDSTOW, BARNEBY, BROUGHTON & SCAWBY.

Chip spice

Invented in the 1970s in the English city of Hull and claimed to have been inspired by American seasonings,[11] "chip spice" was introduced into the United Kingdom in the 1970s in Kingston upon Hull by the Spice Blender company; the recipe was based on American spiced salts containing paprika.[12]
