If you found Roll Deep moving, you might like Heathen by Prince Swanny
This was the 'trinibad' tune I most connected with

Not massively into Swanny, but I like this on the dead like dog riddim.

And theres this, again, very Drill influenced tune (via Pop Smoke presumably) he did with Skillibeng

We had a Trinibad thread where we definitively concluded that Rebel Sixx was miles ahead of the rest of them though.

I have to admit I don't know drill well enough to recognize it as an influence distinct from trap in general.

That Bonafide is good though thanks. Can't tell if the clipping is intentional or not, but I suppose it doesn't matter
I wouldn't make a case for Swanny as an outlier (his album was bland), but I do like this one too, something about his voice and the surprisingly pretty guitar works for me

I think I've read that Trinibad thread, but maybe I should revisit it: Adolf sounds way better than I recalled

trafalgar rd has a little bit of ruff squad about it
Hadnt occurred to me but yeah it really does though its hard to pin down what it is exactly.

Maybe its cos, to me at least, Ruff Sqwad sound the closest to UK Drill out of the grime era stuff, and its a drill beat (albeit most likely directly influenced by Pop Smoke rather than UK)

Skillibeng Reacts To Recent Police Shootout With Robbers In New Track ‘Trafalgar Road’: Listen

Equaliza, Skillibeng - TRAFALGAR ROAD (Official Audio)
Dancehall starboy Skillibeng did not disappoint his fans, now releasing a new single about the recent shooting involving the police and armed robbers on Trafalgar Road in New Kingston on Monday.
After the incident occurred last week, Skillibeng (along with Gold Gad) were challenged by some on social media to produce a quick return with a track much like Coke, the very sensationalized account of the plane crash in Rocky Point, Clarendon back in January.

Skillibeng alongside Dancehall artist Equaliza dropped Trafalgar Road on May 12, just two days after the shoot out.

I like 'Street Cred'.

Heard another good version of the street cred riddim the other day but cant remember what it was.

Never really listened to much masicka but that Different Type tune is a killer

Mi granny tell me, "Different strokes, different folks"
Walk down suh, man buss dem head
And run down suh, man slit dem throat

🔥🔥🔥

Not what he's really known for I guess, but when Popcaan does a proper gunman tune he's brilliant, LOVE this new one (and is the first tune in the most recent Neon Screams dancehall mix I think, sped up loads natch)

yeah that's great. Fixtape had some good gunman tunes on it too

Intence's Yahoo Boyz is probably the best new thing I've heard recently this side of Street Cred

Yeah Yahoo Boyz has blown up really big. There's a viral dance the 'rifle bounce' thats sprung up around it and everything.

I like the chicken-sacrificing voodoo scamming ritual at the start of the video

Something I hadn't noticed before somehow but learned just now from the Simon Reynolds Neon Screams interview is Intence has a third eye tattooed on his forehead

Bit of a one-man thread this, sadly, but I'll keep posting tunes from time to time I suppose. Maybe more people will post after reading Neon Screams?

Was planning to throw a bunch of tunes in this thread earlier in the week but didn't get round to it. This thread basically set my musical direction this year so need to give something back although some of the things I had in mind to share have been posted since. Anyway:

Also about the drill x dancehall thing, it seems Unknown T (and maybe some people in 98s?) have done a tune with Skillibeng - he was in Jamaica shooting a video with Skillibeng about a month ago. Drill rappers have been referencing Skillibeng since about late last year so kind of felt like something that would happen eventually.

And in this Iwaata tune Digga D gets a shout out/cameo.

Don't follow UK drill at all so I didn't know that about the Unknown T collab or that UK drill rappers had been referencing Skillibeng. Not drill, but he appeared on this Dutchavelli tune recently

He's also been getting quite a lot of props stateside, done collabs with Rich the Kid and Jay Critch, had Nicki Minaj and Torey Lanez version crocodile teeth, and supposedly has tunes coming out with Bobby Shmurda and Lil Baby, so he gets about.

Skillibengs more or less the only one doing proper 140bpm drill tunes so far, although there has been quite a few drill influenced glissando bassline riddims like this

And the World Boss himself did this Pop Smoke homage last year, produced by Bobby Konders, though he hasn't followed it up with any more

Pretty wild flute riddim on Intence's "Turn Off" (produced by Countree Hype of Yahoo Boyz)

The drillibeng thing is becoming clearer now

Not the right thread really, but in trying to get a better grip on drill I ran into this

Looks like that guys from the bronx but don't know if you've seen the Brooklyn Drill thread?

Theres possibly another thread about pop smoke somewhere too

Roobric and mr faucet have delighted me so I will share this gem, lowkey one of the best riddims of the year - typical trap hi hat rolls but with a kind lf deep house style synth riff, and the whole thing has an almost uk garage slinky swing to it. Great line up of vocalists too, Tommy Sparta, Rygin King, Intence, Rytikal...

You should. It's a good thread. I've got nothing to contribute, but I like a lot of the tunes being posted. I've completely lost the "music nerd" impulse to chase things up and start digging, so I just enjoy the things people post or that I stumble across from time to time.
