There's at least 20 great tracks out of the 35 or whatever on that, pretty good for a mixtape I'd say.

He's put out at least that many tunes again this year since then, (including the super sleazy Prodigy: Ladies Edition mixtape) and apparently Crocodile Teeth: The Album is out soon - ridiculous workrate.

A lot of people think he should slow it down a bit but I'm not sure I agree.

I'm pretty excited about it to be honest - he's "future' but he's firmly within a JA tradition of commenting on current affairs

I've been meaning to revisit The Prodigy all year. I think I only got through it twice before it became clear, like Benny said, that he was going to put out a dozen more tunes by the time I'd come close to absorbing it. In my memory, it's mostly pretty impressive but sometimes undercooked (some tracks are very clearly freestyled in the studio). So you get lots of amazing tunes but also Skilli rotely informing us of his fellatio stats in the least imaginative way possible...but even those songs are over some fantastically dark riddims. It probably sounds amazing on CD

Agreed. I think the quality really dips in the last third of the album. Some classics on it though - Pree, Bin Laden, Bad Everyday, Grumpy, Brand New Gun, Eastsyde Run E Road, that drill tune My War...

Yeah the last third sounds right—my theory was it was recorded in track order. Blow Me followed by Whatever almost seems deliberate!

Ladies Edition is relentless in this respect and that's part of why it's the weaker tape for me. Still some good tracks on there, and I have a lot of love for Choppa Gyal even if that feels a bit more trap than dancehall, and generally when the balance tips too far that way, that's when Skillibeng's music is less interesting e.g. the Rich the Kid collabs (Skilli on drill tunes is a different thing though for me).

my copy of the Skillibeng - The Prodigy CD arrived today. It's not the mixtape with the same name, it's a "proper album" with 15 tracks on it - here's the track listing for anyone who cares..I don't think any of these are on the mixtape... anyway, sounding good so far ( only 5 tracks in though )

1. Coke
2. Brik Pan Brik
3. Mr Universe
4. Bad Everyday ft Prince Swanny
5. Jansport
6. Crocodile Teeth
7. Badman
8. Blow Me
9. Pree ft Popcaan
10. Time Travel
11. 1Skillibeng ft Jada Kingdom
12. #
13. Tun On E K
14. Brand New Gun
15. Not ft Street Gena, Quenga, FS, One Sparks

Ah right, theres a few on there from the mixtape, but it looks more like an introduction/greatest hits sort of thing.

Huh that's interesting, did Sony put that out officially?

I've had this Jahvillani tune in my head lately, don't think it was posted yet:

Anyone up on this Skeng geezer:

Really good if you're in the mood for melodic nihilism .
Reminds me of UK drill a lot.

Yes! Posted a few tunes some pages back - could be the next big thing, in Jamaica at least I reckon.

This mix is wicked of most of his tunes so far, sped up a bit but not totally chipmunked

Best new dancehall artist to emerge this year so far for me, proper hardcore street business

Amazing! Thanks for the mix - it's the closeness to drill that gets me, those piano licks in the first tune.
Hadn't considered the closeness to drill tbh but yeah. If you look back at the last couple of pages there are a few proper JA drill tunes I posted, mainly just Skillibeng at the moment

The Intense above ( Posion ) is on the 1Matik Riddim, same as the Skeng - Gvnman Shift posted earlier upthread - here's IWaata on the same riddim

IWaata - Ghost Town

and Govana

Govana - 1Matik

I like the sucking teeth effect on the Govana tune
