I always remember the intro to cosmic trigger by Timothy leary where he says the book you are about to read is both epic and encyclopedic. Up and across together. Certain books you can rely on to remake the world if it were to end tomorrow.

And the Bible is basically that.

The most exemplary of all the big books.

You've got Joyce and pynchon and whatever, but the Bible is the big one.

That's the big move isn't it. Read it yourself. Unleashes a lot of energy.

There are tons of Christian "read it in a year plans" online if you did want to go that route.
It's interesting how much of magic is rooted in Christianity - hoodoo in the US South uses the Bible a ton, most Vodou practitioners are Catholic, Goetic demonology relies on the Names of God etc etc. The occult as something totally separate from and opposite to Christianity is a new take.
We seem to have strayed pretty far from dancehall though I guess all of this shit could show up in an Alkaline video tomorrow.

All these dancehall artists are just having a laugh with it really though as is blatantly obvious from the videos, but I do think that quote from Neon Screams above is important though, - the iconography they employ has gone from the sacred to the profane (rastas don't approve of obeah) - obviously this happened in dancehall way before Alkaline, but the past decade's music also has a sinister edge that wasn't really there before, however silly or tongue in cheek it often is.

The reggae continuum's relationship with rasta was always a bit wishy washy tho right?

Like I'm basing this on these oral histories I've done, a lot of people kinda dabbled with rasta, got dreads, then got rid.

So it's a swapping of the signifies maybe? Cos rasta is now a bit old as a thing to think about?

So these new lads have found something else? Just to mix it up?

And take the piss a bit?

Great 6ixx picks @Benny B. There was a period where that crew put out a long streak of mediocre, samey sounding stuff that soured me on them a little. But I especially like Chronic Law and that Organ Trade is excellent.

Not much to contribute myself, but I like this Jahvillani "Wicked & bad" with a weird violin part (around :45) and some bass-not-treble vocal effects

Yes, @Roobric absolutely love Chronic Law's low-slung monotone flow!

It actually took me a while to get into the 6ixx crew material, it didn't seem as immediate to me as Skillibeng, Intence etc when I started getting into this music about a year ago, but I love them now - Squash, along with artists like Rygin King, Jahvilliani etc really laid the foundation for all the trap dancehall to come since then (2018/2019ish, when I wasn't paying attention). I think it's the kind of stuff that you appreciate more when you're already an initiate rather than coming to it new, more subtle maybe, but genre-defining - at the absolute centre of 'trap dancehall'

That kind of housestyle rippling autotune effect they all use on the vocals (what Kit Mackintosh is calling 'bubble voice') is brilliant, combined with all the pitch-shifting and big reverbs etc

Like, that Racketeer tune I posted - at first I thought it was a bit meh, but it's crept up on me and it's probably my favourite tune of the year now.

I had Shiels and Silver Dollars drinking Prosecco, smoking DMT and listening to this stuff on a loop before lockdown. They loved it. Every song we played about five times.
Apart from the prosecco and DMT, which are not my tipples of choice, this has been me all this year. Again and again and again, nearly every tune

Right, that's it, I'm gonna make it a mission to obtain this magical substance before next year is out. Haven't touched anything psychedelic for about three years (a new years eve pill at a reggae night funnily enough).

youll love it. from a practical standpoint its easier if you get the changa which is the crystal mixed with some leaf stuff rather than the crystal alone
