I'm in the mood to watch an Oliver Stone film, but this is the only one on Netflix atm.

I've never had someone delete a post for me before. That was really an all-time gesture. Guys do you ever feel like you might have a crush on Version?

I thought Salvador was solid. James Woods is so good at "playing" sleazy and that character had a lot going on; the back and forth with the military guys over various US-backed coups was a bit preachy and you could tell it was Stone going on an anti-imperialist rant through the character, but still...

I was surprised at how unsentimental it was. I like Platoon, but it's a bit hammy and melodramatic at times, e.g. the sad strings, Dafoe's ridiculous death pose. There was still a bit of that, with John Savage's character in particular, but it felt like a much tougher, colder film. I've paired it with Sorcerer since learning of the two and having finally watched both, the pairing rings true.

She sounds like a real piece of work,
On December 2, 1980, four Catholic missionaries from the United States working in El Salvador were raped and murdered by five members of the El Salvador National Guard... Unlike President Carter, succeeding U.S. President Ronald Reagan favored the Salvadoran military regime; he authorized increased military aid and sent more U.S. military advisers to the country to aid the government in quelling the civil/guerrilla war. His foreign policy advisor Jean Kirkpatrick declared her 'unequivocal' belief that the Salvadorean army was not responsible, adding that 'the nuns were not just nuns. They were political activists. We ought to be a little more clear about this than we actually are.'
