Simona, you're getting older
Your journey's been etched on your skin

Wow—recall Miley Cyrus's recent statements to Mr. Joe Rogan 9/2/2020 about how her voice is "lived in," how the grain has picked up all the cigarettes she's smoked and all the drugs she's done. Very rockist, very Roland Barthes!

However, maybe Mr. Blunt just means that Ms. Simona got a tattoo

Singing, "Here we go again"

Here we can see the usual themes of nostalgia and memory, BUT, with a wrinkle. "Here we go again." What song is this from? Perhaps ABBA's "Mama Mia"! Nope, chronology's wrong, that's 1975. Demi Lovato's "Here We Go Again"? No. Marshmello's "Here We Go Again"? No. Paramore? No. The Vitals? No. Danger Mouse? No. The Game? No.

At this point, the realization dawns on us—dialectically—that we have been searching in the wrong direction. This is not a statement about a particular song. It is about the repetition of a chorus line across songs, over and over. It is a lyric about itself. He is singing the lyric, and its bracketing in quotation does not undermine its power. We feel our heart soar as he hits his high note. We have collapsed a recursive history, the layers of past cultural detritus becoming sedimentary rock, building a foundation for what comes next.

In this way, Blunt is undermining his own nostalgia. He is saying, "yes, the past was great, but the present is greater, because it sits on this past, fossils collapsed and compressed into layers of sedimented rock."

He is saying, Spendo, don't fret. Though time goes by, I will always be—with you—in a club—in 1973.

Let’s try and keep this train on track @suspended
His dissertation at Bristol University was entitled The Commodification of Image – Production of a Pop Idol. One of his sources was Simon Frith, a sociologist and rock critic, and chair of the Mercury Music Prize panel of judges since 1992, who later undertook a lecture tour entitled "The unpopular and unpleasant thoughts inspired by the work of James Blunt".

what did we end up deciding this year meant? Or pointed the way towards or whatever? What would Beezer have said? Let's do his part for him. Lip sync it.

And industry. He would've told us how steel manufacturing practices changed, how the changing oil prices forever altered the Saudi political landscape, how a new trend in design forever forked our built environment, laying the groundwork for mobile apps.
