theres parallel with conspiratorial thinking - loss of trust in state-control / institutions - dissolution of ego state, and then the vulnerability to new charismatic priests and daddies and theories that follows. we dont like to stay in the chaotic and ambiguous
Obvious parallels to ethical relativism and the collapse of previous moral regimes need not be stated explicitly

@shiels i guess as a short term panacea, psychedelics could become instituted as a single or v short term ‘solution’ to a traumatised population, cover in other words to shortfalls in mental health funding. Or worse, we just dole out scripts for meds instead of investing in more costly recovery programs.

I’m not blaming the compounds, but I can’t help but think of of “bad trip hospitals”, institutionalised darkness, because if you control that system you could create a Mel Lyman type with a much greater reach (humans always having the capacity to fuck things up)

Clearly they are contributing to a particular strain of reactionary thinking though, feeding into it.

Aren't they. Yes Luke they are. Like Q Anon Shaman. What's going on here. It is the default belief system of 90% of the western world at this point. This new age spirituality.

Many others but the one which is stabilising and codifying and reproducing itself is the Brian Rose prosperity theology version

Cagey as fuck, consequences of legalities, first ones over the top getting struck off, lack of integration in training with psychology postgrads, fear of being sued from patients. It’ll take more than Carhart-Harris preaching to the converted.

Privately, don’t think it would take too much looking to find a guide. The networks are already established. Very much live, but trust is understandably an issue. It’s small matters like serotonin syndrome that get missed in questioning. Eg NHS repeatedly failing to mention that condition when prescribing anti-depressants combined with clients known to engage in recreational drug use.

It's this very self centred spirituality which isn't energised by the twin poles of heaven and hell but by the promise of becoming the Reality Winner. And it's spread by its apostles who are fabulously wealthy, or appear to be. Or who look fantastic in a bikini or with their shirt off.

The fact that here in the US we don't even put warning labels about interaction with grapefruits, one of the most common foods among the elderly, is insane to me.
