What's your favourite nuclear test? Mine's Redwing Navajo. I love it when they vaporise the sea down to the floor and flash boil the ocean for miles around.
Surprisingly enough, I don't have a favourite nuclear test... There's something captivating about Trinity though, what with it being the first and how ominous the photos are. I love the high speed shots of nuclear explosions and the "rope trick" in general too; really eerie,

I like to think you can work out how the innards were arranged from the patterns cast on the outer edge. Beryllium neutron mirrors leaving a fleeting trace of their topology.

anyone who takes these drugs and isnt a pisstaker is basically a narcisist and probably a dangerous maniac
I think she's taken them but is now warning against them. She's suggesting a different approach. Basically forest bathing but with a morality angle

Yeah, I find it difficult to get along with her telling someone their experience is just their perception, but her's is the real deal. I dunno how you could ever really know that.
Yeah that's true but I find her explanation convincing nonetheless.

At some point or other, you have to believe someone don't you?

You hold a view until it gets sufficiently challenged.

CCF was great. I lit up a farmer's land rover with my Bren gun one night and got bollocked. I think the Major who ran it my school had high hopes for me, but I always disappointed him by being gangly and trigger happy.
I went to a camp at folkestone once where there were all these I'll rabbits round the camp.

I made a flamethrower with a deodorant can and accidentally burnt the face of the unit leader, for a laugh. He had to go to hospital and when he came back his face was all bandaged up.

I was so sad about it, I hid in a cupboard but he came and got me and said it was ok.

Think I was 14.

There were alot of scousers weren't there? Our whole cadet training team was scouse and on that folkestone camp there was a little scouse who used to swap us knives for food from our ration packs

she'll probably justifiy it by saying she spent her gap year with the yanonami shamans of Peru or something what a load of shit
I think there is something like that in there yes, but the bit early on that got me interested was her talking about how she used to do research on fish and animals and couldn't face killing them to collect the data anymore, then the plants "told" her to work with them cos they didn't mind her taking a leaf or two.

I find this sort of stuff about plants and psychedelics interesting, but the framing and aesthetics are important too. The way we discuss it on here is much more appealing to me than the hippy sort of vibe I'm getting from what you're saying about this vid and what she's wearing in the thumbnail - as superficial as that might be.
Yes that is off putting to a degree but anytime yoh talk about any of this stuff there's a cringe factor.

Anyway, I think i will buy this book. I've abandoned Suzane simard for the moment, too dry, but might carry on later.

Will have to be next month cos I just spent too much on a load of books.

on the BBC site - I'd be careful about non-consensual acts with trees - they might get stressed and will not forget...

Do trees have memories?

Dr Estrella Luna-Diez from the University of Birmingham is part of a team of scientists who are researching to see how much a tree can remember about a stressful event and if they can pass any of these memories on to their seedlings.

That's the place. It was very close to where the Channel tunnel excavations were taking place at the time. I think the same barracks is now a camp for new arrivals.

yeah i can't remember what it was called but we were there for 2 weeks and i got my signalman's badge and had the LSW when we did this mental mock battle thing. Good NAAFI, i remember they had these delicious cheap pizzas in one of those hot display cabinet things.

Yes probably, it had long cabins. Similar style to full metal jacket.

I remember feeling like we were in a different country cos it was so warm and spread out.

I had this awful sleeping bag which was feather stuffed so it was boiling at night.

I remember going into this weapons room, can't remember the special name for it but it was like a scene in a film, just guns everywhere, rounds, belts, knives, more guns, bigger ones, supports for guns.

I don't think it was Napier, also recall it being more spread out with wooden barracks and large grass areas in between, not Victorian brick. It's probably a car park now.

I'd forgotten about all the rabbits! Less impressed by the NAAFI, I'd never tasted off milk before eating breakfast there.
