fuck knows somebody must've passed on old stories of what this forum used to be like decades ago, either that or this place has a rep because "Mark Fischer used to post here"
This probably belongs in the K-Punk thread but, I don't think it's been explicitly stated there, so; I wonder what MF would think if he could see this forum now? I'm gonna say that a tiny part of him would probably be a little disappointed with some aspects of it.

he disowned it years ago cos of how stupid me and john eden are and we've only got worse since

"The email was sent by Dr. Edgar Mitchell’s representative Terri Mansfield and “urgently” requested a meeting in which Mitchell could illuminate Podesta about “zero point energy”, “ETI” (Extraterrestrial Intelligences) and “disclosure”… before it’s too late. Podesta’s assistant, Eryn Sepp, accepted the invitation, but said, “John would likely take this meeting alone first before involving the President.”

In the email, Mansfield assured Podesta that the Vatican was up to speed (or on board?) on repercussions of humans interacting with ETI, and how this will affect religion and consciousness.

"Our ETI’s connection to zero point energy is obvious in that their purpose is to guide Edgar’s international Quantrek science team to apply their zero point energy research for humanity, to move away from the use of fossil fuels which are so deleterious to our fragile planet,” wrote Mansfield.

Mitchell was allegedly ‘working with ETI on the Judgment Day Device”. The phenomena associated with this Device makes clear that it is some form of otherworldly ascension tool. It has the capability of making a human holy on contact and transmuting human flesh into light. With it, one can ascend and travel the stars."

But is that true? Does it never cross your mind that those admonishments that you took as him disowning it were probably, with the benefit of hindsight, no different from your exhortations to Tea or whoever to think less rigidly?
Don't you ever think that now that the torch has been passed - no doubt regretfully, or at least painfully, as by a king crowning his weakling bastard while lamenting the death of a much more suitable elder son - to you, and that you are the de-facto K-punk of today's dissensus.... don't you ever hope that daddy is looking down at you from the great blog in the sky and that he might, all in all, be pleased and impressed with where you have taken it to now you've grown so much older and wiser, despite the tortuous route of apostasy that needed to be negotiated to get here?

Of course, it was a blow when your natural heir, Stan, left you unceremoniously in the lurch... but like your illustrious predecessor, you too had a back up plan. One day, when you judge that Mr Tea is ready, you too will storm off into exile, smiling inside at the secret knowledge that you can never share, but confident that he too will steer the forum into the new decade... different, yet, somehow still serving its ultimate purpose and not realising until his own enlightenment that it was a destiny he had been groomed for for years.

au contraire you can see that when i began posting regularly after years of lurking the graph goes beyond @mixed_biscuits' most delirious fever dreams

Interesting conclusion. Correlation is not causation. Maybe we’re fairweather types who join the party when it’s popping but the more likely explanation as you say is were charismatic geniuses who set the place alight

I'd imagine mark would be disgusted by the flippant threads (Dinner of the Day, snacks, post the view from yr window, what's on tonight, etc.) and bemoan the general decline is perceived serious intellectual rigor.

not sure what would be the point of internet forums otherwise, those flippant threads (to me at least) seem to be an inherent part of forum culture in general

post the view from yr window wasnt' meant to be flippant, more a lockdown emergency measure. don't particularly care what anyone eats ever

this is exactly what happened, he got sick of threads like "what music does your girl like" and there weren't enough threads like "capitalist realism - what's the alternative then?"

A shame then that dissensus has been at its intellectual peak ever since me and barty came along.
