There's been a TikTok trend of late in which americans discuss their experiences getting held up by roadmen while visiting the UK—pretty consistently, everyone describes them as, frankly, not scary. The manner of dress scans as not quite intimidating—too clean, often skinny, more eccentric than frightening. Frequently they fail to even steal anything. There's lots of emphasis on the kind of fresh and vivid feeling of being in a dispute with someone and being sure they don't have a gun. No need to panic, maybe it's even worth getting in a bit of a scrap. Worst they can possibly do is stab you—so much better than having your brains blown out that it doesn't feel like a real risk.
I saw one today that described a roadman whose weapon of choice was a stick—someone please tell me that's an exaggeration, right? Nobody is doing robberies armed with a stick?
