99.999% of the time I scroll past the youtube clips on this forum. Im here for the text really and I rarely have headphones with me or whatever, and even when I do I can't get excited about what people are posting (reasons entirely of my own by the way, not an indictment of people posting tunes!)

While reading through the Grim Britannia thread I actually happened to have a speaker connected and played some of the music. I lasted about 7 minutes into Evan Parker and switched it off. Then I played this

I was very taken with this track which is odd because it's actually quite a bad track - the plodding piano chords, the wimoweh vocals, the turgid "melody" that doesn't go anywhere, really - it's not very good

It can't be unique though can it? There must be whole albums of music along these lines

it reminds me very precisely and evocatively of the feeling i got as a child when i would switch the televsion on and the only thing there was to watch was The Flying Doctors
Or worst of all... for a sec you think there is footie on but then you realise it's rugby.

I'm waiting outside Lush right now though... try the second side of Robert Rental and Thomas Leer - The Bridge, always thought that was similar to that side of Low.

Waiting for the woman, it's one in one out and apparently buying a face creqm involves an hour long negotiation.

I've always quite liked this, or at least never found it to be terrible. kind of a classical/film soundtrack thing happening, the chanting vocals are terrible, true. overall: 6/10.

not off the top of my head and (don't take this personally) I don't like it and care enough to search around. maybe some of the stuff on Eno's "another green world" and "before and after science".

yeah i've listened to richard youngs and simon wickham-smith in the day but it was all lo-fi improv-y guitar stuff, then there was that richard youngs lp with his 11 year old son not long ago, very dumb and punky

Yeah those are not very good. The one I love is called beyond the valley of the ultra hits. Check that out if you've not already.

And theres one of his recent ones which is really good. Can't remember the name just now though.

I put him on in Manchester a few years ago and he was very good. He asked for no support and wanted gregorian choral music playing as people went in. He said he wanted to bring people down.

And then he sort of gradually brought them up, had people singing along.

Halfway through, there was rehearsal noise of another band in another studio nearby coming through and he asked everyone to focus on it, then started playing along to it.

And the gig ended with a few minutes of total silence.

Top night.
