what was good about rock music?

people elaborating an entire language together (really more of a -family of languages-) with a small combo of loud and relatively cheap/easy to learn instruments; the birth of a social world of music whose ambitions were world-historical + cosmic from what was originally a pretty limited popular form; music-in-generals sweep of development recapitulated in miniature and compressed into half a century

The guy I'm in a band with really loves kitchens of distinction and introduced me to them.

tl;dr never actually heard any classic rock band, never actually heard john peel, never actually knew anyone who listened to rock 'n' roll.

that makes it pretty difficult to understand what was good about rock music, then. I'm not sticking up for rock, it's just, where to begin?

a lot of the electronic music dissensus loves is still rock and roll.

Bollox.

Maybe Luke but certainly not me. It's about industry, the depersoanlisation of the voice, the disappearance of the worker only for the proletarian to take stage.

anyway I'm not against rock music as the amplification of guitars and the electrical forcefields generated from therein. I take umbrage with rave music being described as essentially rock and roll though, it's really not, unless you want to consider the first ash ra tempel album r&r

rock and roll is about sweaty abandon, about mosh pits and universities. Rave music is much more .. don't step on my toes, but also get yer head fucked with me.

I like that McCartney II album - it's got that track that TLC took the lyrics from for Waterfalls (probably).
