Four pages into my considered and thought-provoking thread on National Bolshevism and we’ve got a photo of a fucking Spoons breakfast and Third threatening to unleash the full wrath of the Turkish mafia on Luka’s English Lads Party.
I do have to wonder what else you expected.

I dunno about that, but think about how Russians are portrayed in western media. They're always mobsters, bouncers, cage fighters, assassins etc in films and all the reporting around them is about oligarchs, money laundering, political interference and so on. There were all those "meanwhile in Russia" memes too about how everyone there is nuts. People talk about Russia like they talk about Florida.
But going back to this... and I agree it is a kind of negative stereotyping, I don't think the average westerner spends any time thinking negatively about the Russian man on the street in the way that a lot of them have been told.

No, of course not but on the other hand even people born after the Cold War ended have grown up on a diet of anti Russian propaganda and it's left a trace

Propaganda or no propaganda, the Russian state gets up to some pretty shady shit, at home and abroad. But the point is that you can accept the truth of this without having a general prejudice against Russian people.

To put it another way, you're always calling GWB the epitome of evil, but nobody assumes that that means you hate Americans.

A good recent novel about modern Russia is Keith Gessen’s A Terrible Country about an emigre who returns. Based on his own experiences, he spends some time with various political groups. Here’s a New Yorker interview he did with his brother https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....-and-keith-gessen-on-writing-about-russia/amp
The other great Russia book is Second Hand Time by Svetlana Alexievich, a collection of oral history accounts of life before and after the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union. I learnt more about the country from that one book than I did when I studied History.

If you remember Nolan did this massive propaganda campaign to get us all into the Covid-19 infected cinemas to sniff this massive cinematic log he'd squeezed out and some more weak-minded cinephiles (like my girlfriend) went along with it.

Was it the first of his films you'd seen? I can't think of any director that's less Craner

From imdb.com:

"Armed with only one word, Tenet, and fighting for the survival of the entire world, a Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time."

Oh boy, I sure do love Protagonists!
