Apparently it's in response to Sinn Féin leaders avoiding prosecution for breaking lockdown to attend a funeral, but I've also seen a few people saying there've been incidents since the funeral and that the loyalist paramilitaries are kicking off because the sea border coming in has fucked up the drug trade.

Yes all of the above really. It’s messy. Working class loyalists feel cornered and ignored and are lashing out. DUP have massively own-goaled supporting a hard brexit, hoodwinked by Boris. The ramifications of brexit and border issues are unfolding and confusing, and they fear unification on the cards in the near future, slowly starting to see the rest of the UK barely even knows they exist.
They can’t budge an inch, obstinance and antagonism is their culture, and they're entitled. Any perceived or actual loss of power or wealth is always ‘them’uns’ - catholics / sinn fein, a brutally simple view of the world that’s manipulated by the DUP.
Also, these problems are real and cause people genuine pain etc but in terms of spilling into riots and violence lockdown, boredom is partly a factor, it’s a bit of craic. Watch the videos and you see kids enjoying themselves while adults jeer and encourage.
The ‘community groups’ organising on social media obviously are usually paramilitary led or at least affiliated, and those people still run plenty of things in these areas, drugs included. UDA etc. They’re pulling the strings to whip up attention and controversy while out of school kids and unemployed teenagers get a bit of excitement. Pretty grim, and will get more serious if someone gets killed

I find it fucking crazy that the sort of kids you can see in the videos in a very tangential way support the UK or have their identity tied up with that but then, that probably says more about my ignorance than anything else. What's been happening w/r/t immigration and the discourse and race and racism reminds me of a reprise of the 70s, this strikes me as being another front of the same phenomena.

I dunno how loyalists can look at the way the English public and government talk about NI and the Irish and still want to be a part of it. Is it just a case of hating the other side so much they're willing to put up with it?

Yeah, that's what I meant, kinda. I assume that what they identify with is something very different.

Both. A lot of Calvinists came from Scotland and English ranks from Cromwell’s army ‘settled’ too
