Could be a transient impression, but my inner CCP global threat level has been dialing down lately, what with all the ostensible cultural crackdowns.

It pleases me that the “crypto is boring” verdict hasn’t contaminated this thread yet. Indeed I think we’re well inoculated at this point.

I do wonder whether they're gonna overreach and shoot themselves in the foot. We might be looking at a Nixon-type "brought down by their own paranoia" situation.

Digital currency in and of itself is far less of an innovation than blockchain. The innovation of blockchain subsumes the innovation of digital currency.
Blockchain generalizes beyond financial databases, I.e ledgers, and into databases most broadly.

It could well become a totalizing layer of the internet, I.e “web 3.0”, in such a way that 99% of front end blockchain usage will proceed without any cognizance of there being employed blockchain technology.

And should CCP insist on whatever vanguard party capitalism it currently exercises, it may find itself at odds with such a paradigm shift, namely the system-wide adoption of decentralized ledger technology.

That said I think we westerners may well have much to learn from the PRC, including but not limited to the so-called special economic zones which would seem to constitute a kind of patchwork macroeconomics, but I haven’t really looked into it.

Yeah this is in line with my impression, but again I’m not sure how enduring it is.

Land's claimed blockchain "solves the problem of spacetime," whatever that means.
Yeah I haven’t figured out what he’s saying there. I remember an episode of Other Life that had Land on some zealous rant about blockchain, making even me now seem like a normie

But he also doesn’t strike me as someone particularly interested in the technical details, that is he seems more focused on the gnosis than the science.

Again because he doesn’t strike me as someone versed in theoretical physics, so I assume the problem in question is more in the vein of continental philosophy.

I usually don't find myself saying this, but I suspect he did too much speed or whatever it was.

edit: actually this is something I would likely say for many cases, now that I think about it.

If you are an ageing user of the internet like me you might remember the alphabay bust

Anyway DeSnake is somehow back, has a new market with promises of decentralisation and promising users ways to get money out even if busted (?). Hard to say if its a honeypot or exit scam, or if he's an informant.

Its interesting though, that, Wired have effectively ran an infomercial for a dark market?

Summary on arstechnica. Subterfuge somewhere surely

Makes me doubt the real efficiency of Monero tbh

seems pretty sus, they're not exactly offering anything new either apart from future promises and that AlphaGuard thing sounds fanciful.

Why does it make you doubt Monero? Every market seems to accept it now, a few take it exclusively. I think Bitcoin's time as the black market currency is done.
