blackhaine's everywhere at the moment. i'm just listening to that "always now" album again and the drumming, sparse production and haunting vocals make me instantly think of joy division

this blackhaine video with space afrika is an absolute shocker

all the things that make the other videos good, the sparseness, his weird dancing, not showing his face much, are absent here. weird weird video, can't get my head around it at all

Perhaps "make me instantly think of Martin Hannett" would be more apposite there?

probably yes. but i do also think his vocals on some of the songs sound uncannily like ian curtis. that ice coldness.

also remind me of the chills, bt JD much more, especially that one tune "new horizon", although it's more poppy, bit less austere.

and hannett is a big part of the JD sound no?

Funny how that happens... you have never heard of something then suddenly it's everywhere. Someone pulling strings...

yeah this does always happen doesn't it - the machine goes into action and you get loads of articles all at the same time, basically all saying the same thing.

Certainly on their recordings. Joy Division live were much more of a full on rock band. Whereas Section 25 were more stripped back, sort of avant-punk: pounding drums, rudimentary basslines, out of tune shout singing, and noise and distortion from the guitar.

Try this... (y)

"nothing here now but the recordings" - yeah this is the thing i suppose. i've listened (not a huge amount) to JD, but it's really just been those two studio albums and that 2 disc comp from a few years ago. and obviosuly have just now been listening to this studio album by section 25. whereas you will have seen them both live... will check that link cheers
