Just edit it down to the most exciting three-minute section.
Jah jah , about duration - well everybody has had the phenom of listening to something and after some point often things don't progress ( fine sure, but in this time and speed of life, so easy to feel ' ok got it ' and off one goes to the next shiny object ).
This collection can possibly avoid that as when the maker feels that same thing -
ok just repeat for another 1-2-3 -4 minutes, maybe just ...don't.
And see how that feels, sounds.

As looking at it from the end aim , wouldn't it be cool if other people who listen mostly go ' oh these cats were onto something here- i want more ' when they listen in oh 2025 -2030 or so.
One may laugh , but about 10 years went by before i came back here,
so i can see easily if we make something worthy ( of ourselves ) people will note and come back to it.
That brings me back to the kind of Tabula Rasa g zero of no wave -
no overarching plan, ppl just picked up what they had and got on with it.
Creative destruction, new growth brain forests

Well said @polystyle

So then folks, looks like it's a free for all after all. Let's play it by ear but try to have your pieces ready by the end of next month, and as said before, the earlier the better so we can see what we're working with wrt the next steps. There's a supermoon on the 26th so maybe we can play with that date if all's done by then. And yeah, can't really say anything better than the above post. Bangers and bombs sil vous plait! 💣

Well, I planned to spend a few days agonising over something, but ended up knocking out a track in a couple of hours, and I can't fathom how to improve it just yet. So here's my contribution in its first (last?) draft.

My first ever serious attempt at a non-ambient track, I've made some honest-to-goodness techno. I've kept it to 2 or so minutes in the spirit of not boring everyone.

Some tasty timbres in there @Dusty Enjoying Magpie I, too

Looks like you've got plenty of time to come up with some more before the next lunar cycle completes ;)

@Dusty I'd love to hear another minute of that and a slower fade-out. I love how static and still it feels despite being twitchy and rich with melody. (Melody isn't maybe the right word, but those high-freq drones are a lot more musical than stuff adjacent to this tends to be)

OK, so I think I'm happy with my entry (or my first entry, I should say, maybe) - I've tweaked the levels and structure since the demo a few days ago. Comments and criticism welcome!

This is seriously good! Love the industrial vibe. What tools are you using?

Nice little steppa this, @Mr. Tea. Could imagine mashin up de place on a spring afternoon at a socially distanced picnic or some equally breezy event

this is really good - rhythmically propulsive, great interplay between the piano chords and guitar blasts, and the flash of change in melody at ~2m20. I like the vocal sample but how would the intro sound if you just kept it as instruments until the drums kicked in? I think it sounds fine as it is but I'd be curious to hear if having a few bars of just instruments would animate the haunting texture of the vocal.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm forever messing about with tunes long after they're "finished", so while I doubt I'll put a third version up on Soundcloud, I may well tinker with it further before it's ready for the comp.

I know the feeling - until something is uploaded and available I don't feel it is out of my hands and so can constantly be tinkered with. I can fill an A4 page of notes and ideas on every playthrough of a four-minute demo of my own. And then the next time my notes are 50% "undo that change it was a silly idea"
