Dissensus Raw: The Compilation - A Thread

Dusty

Tone deaf
I am very much enjoying the heaviness of the bounce in this, bass accented on the snare makes it sound very geologically hazardous,
something very very heavy shifting, alike to when you're moving a heavy, flat objects lied one on top of another, one wrong push and your fingers are gone
I think your description of the track is far better than the track itself. I want to now go away and try and make something captures that statement fully, that does it justice.

Definitely one for the pagan rooftop party, that.

Very dance-able, Your bass gives it a richness that a synth wouldn't be able to mimic.

Thanks. For my more dancefloor-oriented stuff, I've converged over the years onto a sound based on programmed beats, pseudo-303-ish synths in the midrange, often a high string-like synth at the top (the 'Gary Numan' bit @polystyle picked up on), with the bass underpinning it all.

This is most housey sound I've experimented with yet, with that straight 4-to-the-floor beat. I've nearly always got at least a bit of a breakbeat going on.

Hear the one your evolution - after some time making things, it felt good to discern what makes a track work ( certain kinds of tracks anyway ), boiling down.
Once we learned to build up from the drums, then bass then the rest is gravy

Just getting round to giving these a proper listen

what's the deadline?

Great opening. A sense of voyage to an undetermined destination. An ominous squawk is heard from above. You begin to regret leaving the shore. Around 1:23 a great undercurrent starts to pull you even further out with no way to resist. By 2:19 your bearings are gone, no shore in sight. Just a few hungry gulls circling overhead.

You're being pursued by a covert security agency after trying to breach the Bilderberg conference somewhere in rural Switzerland. Your GPS watch flashes a black dot on the map - the afterparty. You duck and dive through cobbled backstreets. No time to lose. You find your car and drive out to the woods. The throb of bass can be heard in the distance. You check your appearance in the wing mirror. As you get closer you see the entrance, the mouth of a cave with a strobe light leaking out through the chinks in the huge castle-like door. A deep breath, a straightening of the tie, and the approach. Cool as a cucumber you slide past the guards with a nod and flash of ID. @1:00 you enter the great hall, a waiter walks past with a tray of dosed champagne flutes. Without thinking, you take one and throw it back, and before you know it you're raving it up with the who's who of global politics and industry. Was that Jeff Bezos gurning his tits off over in the corner? Who cares? Angela Merkel passes you a tightly rolled joint. What's all the commotion on the dancefloor? Ooh, it's Rupert Murdoch doing the funky chicken!

but here goes. anyway.

A tattered cardboard box from a chest in your grandfather's attic. "He hasn't touched those for years" your grandmother mutters as you climb back down the ladder. A small square box, you're able to make out the letters BAS, but all other indicators as to what it may hold are lost to time. You open it and are surprised to find a reel to reel tape. "Did he have anything to play this on?" you ask. "Yes, I think it was this old thing," she says and opens the understairs cupboard. On the floor of the cupboard is an old reel to reel covered in cobwebs and dust. You notice the word Stellavox poking out through the grime. "You can take that thing with you too if you'd like." After dinner, you say your goodbyes, load the gear in the car and hurriedly drive home. Once there you put it on the kitchen table with some newspaper underneath and clear the debris with a cloth. You load the tape and are amazed to find the machine working flawlessly and even more surprised to hear the sound coming from the speakers. Repetitive bleeps and bloops of sequenced synths and a distorted beat which could be approximately described as electro. Studying the inside of the box a bit closer you see a date written in pencil - 17.11.1955. Your eyes widen and you look back at the spinning tape with disbelief. Once the 4 minutes are up, you carefully start the spool running backwards to rewind it and as you do you hear a squealing and soft but discernible tearing. Bad news. You slow the rewind speed but the tape is already near the beginning and as you look closer you can see a thick brown dust has collected on the guides and play head. Sticky Shed Syndrome. You hit play once again and all that remains are tiny, warped fragments of the piece you'd just heard. It quickly becomes apparent that the first time you heard the piece would also be your last.

And after crows in the crowd peaked and got restless ...
only a few feathers and a grease smear were left on dance floor.

Found another book at the book box - with the best of Mark Samuels ,
The Age Of Decayed Futurity
" Your eyes did see my unformed substance." _ Psalm 39

The office tower had long fascinated me.
The building dominated the skyline in the Euston area of London
and consisted of twenty-seven floors with an exterior of green, dark glass.
I would gaze at this structure from the window of ..."

Right then

first step into the brostep research has been made, I wonder where will it take me

you might have to turn it up

Spinal skittering engulfed subatomic frequential. Teethy eyes rattle boneflesh roundbox. Focus evershift. No identifiables.

Chattering slows then dermarippled lumbar. Sensation meld. Rusted electrical notes. Washed down prisma light spectrum.

Plugged in exhalation.

Evaporate.

It was a good week for the compilation

Was listening back to everything so far from most recent back to first Sid V ,
- and there is quite a bit happening among the art and music feeling a pent up force forward to seeing this through.

Looking forward, all tracks come in during May,
something promotional , ahead of the full moon eve be it the 25th or 26th ?
Some initial writeup, with sounds ? at least an announcement saying this is happening ?
to be figured out, some org - semi organized ways to get the word out ...

Formats.
Digital.
Here in US / global, Bandcamp is still seemingly a best option and they do pay.
There are other options say Cassette tape ( this project doesn't seem to be asking to be on tape - although it could never hurt,
or vinyl or CD ( only in Japan by now )
It will always be one click away, always available.

A second stage / other option in addition to making a bandcamp -
VInyl would seem proper !
we could research, how much to make a white label 12" or - this would have to be an Album.

Thoughts : Vinyl could be something to aim for
$ coming in from sales of people downloading the comp. can go for Dissensus costs ?
And to Artists.

Here is something you all who contribute can consider -
You experienced artists and everyone who makes tracks , you already know about music publishing, your rights, copyright and such.
For those who have never made a track and had it on a release, well, this can be a low barrier to entry opportunity to become a track maker' > Song writer > Music publisher .
Some may not want to sign to a ASCAP or BMI, as we have here in US ,
UK has PRS ?

Promo.
Best thing is get some reviews of the comp. -
i already hear some pretty cool things, may have done well to feel a freestyle
post Sars relief collection- that's pretty interesting right there.

* Also am liking pattycakes texts as well, his stories on the pieces,
that can be all put together on a page for the project.

Good to generate some text and graphics going forward into May
Online flier announcement,
later, Midsummer's Night flier for online Mix night ?

What's good about establishing a bandcamp, the music is sold, money comes in
- maybe Dissensus already has some fiscal body ?
If not, not difficult to look into it and royalties go into it , to be dished out when they come in.

* When i joined ASCAP in NYC back in '80's since then they send me my money.
Usually not much in each quarter , sometimes though there is a movie played again on Cable that nets you some money. I like reading the accounting, where the music was bought, who reported it, direct into my account.

When , if, you feel to join a publishing entity your work can be more protected,
your song or track is there on record at the publishing house / entity.

Because another good factor towards considering to do a DIssensus Bandcamp
say, is then any other future Editions can have a home there too, plus literally any spin offs, Dissensus Raw Tracks exclusives, remixes could all be accessed in one place

Thoughts on Bandcamp , other places to get the music to , who will like it ,review it ?
one further thought if things go well, there are things like having Youtube channel and so on , but honestly, from Artist POV, i kind of hate those companies - Youtube, FaceBook and Spotify.
Because of how little they pay - or don't pay at all.

The situation now is , if i release a vinyl record on a European label, the distributor sends it onto to Spotify, so they have most records i have done.
The upside there is people def can - possibly - find out about your music there.

Thanks to all who dreamed up this idea and who are taking part -
It's all very doable
