Serious question: what's the appeal of cassettes, beyond retro cachet?
Warmed sound, ease of DIY recordings I suppose? Don’t think CD-R trays is something anyone has these days, frankly I’ve seen more tape decks around.
I have mates that release on SD cards but frankly I think it takes quite a lot of packaging related effort to make a nice physical copy out of that.

there was a rumour that part of the secret of the Basic Channel sound involved cassette tapes...
i wouldn't be surprised though i always find this "secret" technique stuff really stupid

as the signal coming off my synth setup is very loud, or as the pro's say, "hot", it's nice to set a level on the tape recorder and know that there will be no unlistenable distortion. cassette tape saturates nicely if the level is slightly over and stays within a certain volume level. then when i digitise the tapes, again the level is so low that there's no chance of it clipping digitally even if i add a load of EQ. digital clipping is horrible unless you're an experimental laptop artist from 1999. so i find it works really nicely.

I'm a bit drunk so my previous statement was not qualified, but what I omitted was that the rumours originated from guys trying to recreate the Basic Channel sound without a hope in hell of reaching those heights and no clue of what they are doing..."oh, it must because they have a secret technique"

i remember reading an interview with roni size! and he was saying their drum trigger setup was so amazing that no one was allowed to look at it cos they'd immediately twig the brown paper bag sound lol and then roni size would just be any guy. what a load of shit

I hope they had one engineer looking after each percussion instrument, who wasn't allowed to see any of the others.

theres live double bass and i think jools holland plays boogie woogie piano on it
Not merely playing, but actively smothering everything with it.
this is the massively un-not-noticeable point about "jazzy jungle", is it not, here's this amazing futuristic sound that is unlike anything ever heard before in human history well let's hobble it by inserting double bass sounds, fucking fender rhodes chords, and saxophones, fuck that

Not looking bad, but could use some promotional pumping I suppose.
So far two sales have been made amounting to the glorious 5.50 quid (minus bandcamp's fees), once some more has been made I think we should probably donate it to cover a tiny bit of the forum hosting.
Also, patty's track has been temporarily pulled down due to some drama going on, he's redoing some of it due to something that seems to be a copyright issue.
