I couldn't find an appropriate thread for this, so I thought I'd make a general one for stuff people might dig up from time to time.

Good Law Project

Dear ,

Our High Court hearing is now over. Over the course of five days we’ve heard how companies with political connections jumped the queue to win lucrative PPE deals and that hundreds of millions of pounds of public money was wasted on PPE that couldn’t be used by the NHS.

What’s more, we have exposed what the leading QC acting for Good Law Project and EveryDoctor described as:

"a relentless campaign by the Defendant to obscure what really happened on significant issues."

Now, all that is left to do is wait for the judgment. We have no way of knowing when that might be handed down by the Judge - it could be weeks, or even months. We just have to sit tight.

One thing we are certain of is that, as soon as we can, we will update you on the result. Your friends and family can sign up to receive news of the judgment too. You can encourage them to sign up for updates on social media.

Bringing a case of this magnitude has only been possible thanks to the support of thousands of people across the country, including you. Regardless of the final judgment, together we have shone a light on Government practices that they would rather have kept hidden.

Thank you for helping to make it happen,

Jo Maugham
Director of Good Law Project

& another mighty smiting of the donuts at GCHQ at the hands of Privacy International, Liberty, Big Brother Watch and allies
In a nutshell, one of the world’s most important courts, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, today found that certain UK laws about how intelligence agencies can spy on our internet communications breach our rights to privacy and freedom of expression. These surveillance laws have meant that the UK intelligence agencies can sweep up huge amounts of our internet communications (what is referred to in the law as a rather technical and harmless sounding ‘bulk interception’) in secret and without any oversight. This can include social media posts, emails sent and received, internet searches, websites you visit, and apps that you use.

A mass (no pun) of counter-intelligence psy-ops

62a8a2cd-113d-4782-8b06-f7ffddecf2bb-1360x2040.jpeg

British military intelligence agents in Northern Ireland used fears about demonic possessions, black masses and witchcraft as part of a psychological war against emerging armed groups in the Troubles in the 1970s, a study says.

Prof Richard Jenkins, from Sheffield University, spoke to military intelligence officers, including the head of the army’s “black operations” in Northern Ireland, Captain Colin Wallace.

Wallace told Jenkins that they deliberately stoked up a satanic panic from 1972 to 1974, even placing black candles and upside-down crucifixes in derelict buildings in some of Belfast’s war zones.

Then, army press officers leaked stories to newspapers about black masses and satanic rituals taking place from republican Ardoyne in north Belfast to the loyalist-dominated east of the city.

In Jenkins’s book, Black Magic and Bogeymen, Wallace admitted that the “psych-ops” branch of military intelligence exploited public fear of satanism stoked by films such as The Exorcist and The Devil Rides Out.

Wallace told Jenkins that by whipping up devil-worshipping paranoia, they created the idea that the emerging paramilitary movements and the murder campaigns they were engaged in had unleashed evil forces across Northern Irish society.

Wallace said his Information Policy group, based at military headquarters in Thiepval barracks, Lisburn, hit upon the idea of summoning the devil as a way to discredit paramilitary organisations.

Lobster magazine has covered Colin Wallace and psyops in Ireland since it started - Stephen Dorril used to be co-editor until he had an argument with the current editor over the direction it was taking...

Dorril is heavily involved in this new film about Colin Wallace ( the guy behind the witchcraft scare, whistleblower about Kincora boys home scandal, etc )

The Donna Tart novel, like all Donna Tart novels, has a solid first half and then jumps the shark for no good reason. Huge disappointment.

not politics but there is an amazing thing happening on Drag Race Down Under where they've taken contestants on to the show who have really troubling backgrounds - one has been found to have performed in blackface, another one has a gollywog tattoo. They've both apologised etc but you have to wonder how much research was actually taken by production, that the fans were able to find this stuff before the crew.
