Taken a long time for Germany to officially acknowledge this.
I'd never heard of it until I read Gravity's Rainbow. Seems to be much less well publicised than, say, Belgian atrocities in the Congo.

Then again, loads of people in this country don't know about the Amritsar massacre or the suppression of the Mau-mau rebellion, I suppose.

Yeah, that's where I first heard of it too. He has a whole chapter dedicated to it in V. as well.

Yep, I remember. Makes me wonder why that particular genocide made such an impression on him, when - depressingly enough - there are so many he could have chosen from.
