There was a good thread on Twitter a while back explaining a bunch of the Chinese nicknames for NBA players,
Steph Curry - 库昊 "fucks the sky" This is an extremely elaborate pun. One of Curry's phonetic names is 库里 (ku li) and the second character is a combination of the characters 日 ("sun") and 土 ("ground"). But 日 is also slang for "fuck."

Given Curry's penchant for launching shots into the sky, Chinese netizens apparently felt it would be more apropos to name him "fucks the sky" instead of "fucks the ground," so they replaced "earth" (土) with "sky" (天) in the second character.

Other common nicknames for Steph Curry include "Sprout God" (萌神) and "The Elementary School Student" (小学生), both playing on his diminutive stature.

Actually, it might be Prince. In his purple velvet suits, very cartoon majestic. Fit his personality.

he mononymised his given name though so maybe that doesnt count.
hard to know was he lucky to get such as suitable name, or did he grow into it,

i always envy my childhood friend Wyndham, son of mr and mrs Lewis - i also used to work with a Simone Weil (slightly different spelling i think), i mean why not ffs.
the real trick must be to convert your surname into a monicker for your child that guarantees public status

ah, yeah, my mistake. I forgot his real names Prince Rogers Nelson, misremembered for a moment it was Roger Nelson.

I guess that rules out Donovan and Madonna.

Don't some supposedly dignified folks -- old money people here, aristocracy over there -- sometimes have rather silly nicknames? Kind of goes along with their whole shabby chic thing of being educated and wealthy but wearing shirts with frayed collars.
