IdleRich

IdleRich
Just Lizatron and IdleRich at the controls this month, just dropping tunes the like of which you have never heard from all over the map. A canny observer may notice that the closest thing to a link in this diverse selection - which builds up from gospel to k’d out techno via brutal drum breakers – is the number of tunes that draw on themes from various religions; crowbarred together with utter belief the cumulative effect is one that you might almost call spiritual.

As usual we are on the Threads* player in the black box, nor the boring old Threads one with no star in the white box.

Thanks mate, that's actually a recycled picture from a little while ago but I do still have that jacket somewhere I think. Not sure if Liza still has the helmet though.

I have a love/hate with Johnny jewel. used to buy all the Italians Do It Better releases, then they all literally started to sound exactly alike. chromatics, desire, glass candy and a bunch of more recent ones. and then his own releases, a million real/imagined soundtrack albums that are cool but all essentially the same too.

also read there was a not-nice parting of the ways between him and IDIB co-founder mike simonetti, who accused jewel of all sorts of shadiness.

early glass candy is still a favorite, though.

I love Chromatics albums for the first twenty minutes and then they disintegrate into wispy nothingness. One day they'll have an excellent 80-minute best-of but not every album needs to be 2 hrs long and bulked with instrumentals and alternative mixes. Glass Candy were great because of Ida No, I wonder if they'll ever get around to releasing new music ever again.

I love that jacket and I love "The Big Fake" so thanks for this!

The Farah releases on IDIB are pretty cool. Typical jewel music but really disaffected vocals. she can't really sing, so just sort of talks through the lyrics is a spoiled kid who'd rather be doing anything else.

I'm never that sold on IDIB either. The two tracks on that mix are real soundtrack tunes, they are both from Lost River, thought of that cos we were discussing it recently... I think it's Saoirse Ronan singing on the first one. In fact, I checked, it is her.
I do like the Glass Candy version of Miss Broadway with that bonkers vocal, it reminds me of Space Woman

The Big Fake are you saying that's one that you know already or you just heard it from that?
ps thanks for the jacket compliment, seems I should be wearing it more often.

I always used to get Chromatics mixed up with that band Cosmetics for the obvious reasons that they sound very similar and also they sound very similar. But I like Cosmetics a lot more... I guess they are more obviously up my street.

They seemed to just kinda fade away very quickly though, I was surprised cos to me the tunes sound like hits and I think the singer was a super hot girl which together I thought ought to be everything you need.
