obviously driving the increase in electric bikes and electric scooters. dissident leader and thought criminal renegade peter hitchens currently leading an impassioned campaign against e-scooters. some electric bikes weight as much as motorbikes and go almost as fast. dont like seeing them on cycle lanes really.
sort of a merchant middle man csituation ferrying goods across the seas.
i was reading a bit about them in my Poplar research becasue Poplar has some deliveroo dark kitchens on wasteland under some flyovers/railway bridges. amazon have pumped a couple of hundred million in to keep them afloat while they try to capture the entirety of the food industry.
visually, as an image, its a load of desperados hanging around street corners, grizzled civil war veterans, child rapists, fugitives from justice, cartel hit men, waiting for the app to beep, drinking beer, huffing nitrou, smoking weed. a whole class of men we have elimated from the gene pool come back to deliver soggy chips and cold burgers.
a visual index of the underclass serf society, very similar to the way men had to hang around the docks hoping to be chosen to graft for the day.
fighting hand to hand for the privelge of delivering a pizza to corpsey
Getir ("bring" in Turkish) is a Turkish start-up founded in 2015. Through its mobile app, it offers an on-demand "ultrafast" delivery service for grocery items, in addition to a courier service for restaurant food deliveries.
having said that as a teenager/twenty something i would have loved this job cos all i wanted was to ride my bike and smoke weed anyway with no boss breathing down my neck. hanging with the boys getting high, what a great life
theres a place called iro sushi next to me and it always has so many deliveroo orders you cant walk past it without literally having to push over mopeds, fling bikes aside, barge past riders, clttering up the whole fucking pavement get the fuck out the way this is a public thoroughfare
In thoroughfares nigh the docks, any considerable seaport will frequently offer to view the queerest looking nondescripts from foreign parts. Even in Broadway and Chestnut streets, Mediterranean mariners will sometimes jostle the affrighted ladies. Regent Street is not unknown to Lascars and Malays; and at Bombay, in the Apollo Green, live Yankees have often scared the natives. But New Bedford beats all Water Street and Wapping. In these last-mentioned haunts you see only sailors; but in New Bedford, actual cannibals stand chatting at street corners; savages outright; many of whom yet carry on their bones unholy flesh. It makes a stranger stare.
But, besides the Feegeeans, Tongatobooarrs, Erromanggoans, Pannangians, and Brighggians, and, besides the wild specimens of the whaling-craft which unheeded reel about the streets, you will see other sights still more curious, certainly more comical.
The rules of the game have changed. UK tech pioneers Deliveroo, now backed by Amazon, are racing against Uber for market dominance, and are expected to launch thousands of new “virtual restaurants” that will disrupt the food service industry globally.
