I'm really glad somebody started this thread though because I'm going to smash the fletics this year
hes going to tell his anecdote about competing for the Barry athletics club in the 800 metres soon before being
forced to retire with an 'ankle injury' aged 14 and a half

there were only 3 channels then and no internet. and the olympics was on during the endless days of the summer holidays.
you would watch for hours. and Britain had its heroes, steve backley, linford christie, colin jackson and his perpetual understudy tony jarret, steve black, kelly holmes, kriss akabusi, johnathan edwards, sally gunnel, john regis

All legends, and this is exactly how it was. Barcelona was like a golden games.

Great comment!

its partly/largely the drama created by having that one action to nail and win or lose i guess isnt it
heres his last throw of the night he has to get 90 metres or beyond
I lost interest in javelin when Steve Backley threw one 99 metres so they redesigned the javelin and voided all the records because they were worried about the runners being skewered. What was the point of it all, then!

Another great comment, though. Who is this guy?

one of the best sports events me and craner have ever seen was the titanic long jump clash between (relatively unheralded) mike powell and (superstar legend) carl lewis during which the world record (which had stood unchallenged for roughly 30 years) was broken with almost every jump so you have a continual upping of the ante

I already mentioned this.

thats one of those things that really highlight what a moronic medium film is. and i like that film. but the music is for morons in the same way the sun tells their writers to write for a reading comprehension age of 12
