DLaurent's Techno Top 100

54) Schizophrenia - Schizophrenia

A title close to my heart and a Moritz Von Oswald production I think. Either way, it samples Ash Ra Temple - Sunrain. A track I just posted in the songs about rain thread. It also made Fact's Top 20 Dub Techno records. As blissful as the track it samples I think.

55) Sueno Latino - Sueno Latino (Illusion First remix)

I've already posted a Derrick May track, one of his R Tyme releases but this is also a decent progressive track, tracing it's way back to E2 E4 (Manuel Gottsching is also on the above record) and best of all ti has Loon Bird samples

Here's a Terrence Dixon track, one if you was going to pick a techno track to play on Twin Peaks Bang Bar, this could be the one.

57) Stasis - Natural People

There are probably other Stasis tracks I think are better, better club tracks or whatever, but this is a really beautiful one. Techno goes new age.

58) Repeat - Lilt A

Here's an album originally released in 95 by Mark Broom and Plaid members I think then reissued on Delsin. It's a worthy addition anyway.

If Surgeon can play Aphex Twin in Techno sets then so can I. This one from Analogue Bubblebath 3.

60) Grungerman - Fackeln Im Sturm

A nice slow 'techno fist' track from Wolgang Voigt that samples some old Schlager track. Not knowing much about German techno this is how I imagine their old raves to have sounded although a bit slower.

61) Tronikhouse - The Savage and Beyond

And then there's Belgium, another quandry for me, I know R&S records and I know Kevin Saunderson, think he used this riff on a few records, has a Metalheadz vibe to it. All the black keys if I'm right. That's how I play it anyway and this is a track I come back to, savage...

62) Regis - Baptism

I've been meaning to post more stuff like this, Downwards style Birmingham techno. A lot of tracks in this style end up more than the sum of their parts in a mix, it's why I never really got into a lot of the 'free party' style techno and have stuck a lot of Detroit stuff up. But then there's tracks like this that if I have to pick one or two stand out I suppose due to gut wrenching bass dynamics.

63) Female - No Sense No Reason

The great thing about the best Birmingham techno tracks is that are just bleepy enough to have a 'pop' sensibility underneath all the thunderous percussion.

64) Planetary Assault Systems - Angel Street

Luke Slater was probably always going to be the most posted producer in this list. This is the third track I've posted from him but I want to include it as it reminds me of the way, the old venues we used to go to, converted churches and factories etc, they often had glass windows and when you stood outside in the street you would hear them rattle with the synths glowing in the background.

Huge, huge influence for me. A total curveball of a record. Nobody pushed the limits like ol' Wolfgang then (and now for that matter). When people say techno isn't auteur-driven, I respond with a random Wolfgang track.

Edit: Old raves in Germany didn't sound like this, sadly

I keep trying to get into Gas stuff. Never really clicked for me even though I appreciate the quality.

woops

is not like other people
gas is strictly boring only people without a pulse enjoy gas
i remember when the gas LPs were coming out and were highly rated all over the place, but when i listened to them in the rough trade shop they sounded like murky underwater atmospherics with an equally muted 4/4 kick. as someone paying close attention to german electronic music at the time this was not what i was looking for at all. picture my dismay when one of their albums was rereleased with some fanfare 20 years later

Gas is an interesting sound as a one-off, probably would have made for a good EP. a full album gets to be a bit much, multiple albums are unnecessary. Nerds like to discern the minute variations and shifts in sound from album to album, I'm just not that into it.
