I've been playing with a new AI art generation technique, "latent diffusion"

codebook for the technical people: google collab notebook - latent diffusion ( I have failed to get this to work )

and the online interface for the non-techies:

hugging face

I tried this line from J.H. Prynne on Hugging Face: "Along the seam cresting to burn out black my interim destruction"

and got this:

which, if it was an album, I would buy on sight

"latent diffusion" and the new openAI DALL_E 2 have a NSFW variable, the threshold of which I violated by using the J.H. Prynne line "Along the seam cresting to burn out black my interim destruction" ( from "To Pollen" ) as a prompt

I'm guessing one word in the Prynne sequence of words prompted the AI into racist imagery ( edit: ethics, mores, etc., this is a big deal, corporations are now deciding what is "safe" - tldr; set the nsfw_threshold to 1 if you want unhelpful imagery )

So, I've been feeding the AI a phrase from the recent J.H. Pyrnne, Dune Quail Eggs, soon to be a blockbuster movie if I can secure the film rights,,,

one sequence of words, "ghost braid prune force", has had me pondering on how "regular" Prynne is, but the "AI" interprets it thus:

ghost braid prune force

I didn't know I needed "ghost braid" in my life, but the AI has shown me!

and if I type in the full sequence from Prynne,"ghost braid prune force toy", then the AI presents me with a tempting array of counterfeit merch

I've been feeding the "latent diffusion + LAION-400" AI with sequences of words harvested from J.H. Prynne:

I'm not impressed with this new AI technique - it's OK if you want a "lorem ipsum" style placeholder for a pound shop catalogue, as it seems to favour "product" type images - here's an example using a J.H. Prynne sequence of words:

I'm only linking to this article because it features the phrases "vibe shift" and "vibe singularity" ( do these people know that "vibes" are so last decade? We're talking "lore" now! )

The article: Dalle-E 2 and the origin of Vibe Shifts

TDLR; the guy reckons web design will change because, rather than paying graphic designers stupid money, in the future we will generate our web graphics using AI

like... and this is a bit of a joke... say I run an interior design company and I need some thumbnails for our exciting new offering of "an armchair that looks like an avocado", then I can just go to my google collab page and type in "avocado armchair", and "hey presto!", I get a bunch of weird looking png graphics I can plump on my crappy webpage

edit: took about 5 seconds to generate this shit

I'd be interesting in summoning a suite-like chimera of GANs under the guise of an avant-garde human, equipped with deepfake facial generation and BG selfie imagery, textually-expressed thoughts, and just releasing it on Twitter.

At some point, "retroactive continuity" was shortened to "retcon", reportedly by Damian Cugley in 1988 on Usenet. Hard evidence of Cugley's abbreviation has yet to surface, though in a Usenet posting on August 18, 1990, Cugley posted a reply in which he identified himself as "the originator of the word retcon".[9] Cugley used the neologism to describe a development in the comic book Saga of the Swamp Thing, which reinterprets the events of the title character's origin by revealing facts that previously were not part of the narrative and were not intended by earlier writers.

OK, maybe time for some... blah, blah, blah

but when I started this thread I could enter "elm fuck" as a prompt, but the latest iteration of AI won't allow that...wtf?

big corporations denying me my right to generate Hentai Pr0n?

not that I want to ( generate Hentai Pr0n? ), but now I'm getting NFSW warnings when I type in a sequence of words from J.H. Prynne?

I'm not not that keen on your future tbh...
