Anyone look into this Texas abortion ruling?

Only encountered basic coverage of it myself, but I gather it involves rendering illegal abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, and it also empowers citizens to report such abortions and presumably even aidings of such abortions.

From Reuters:

First, the law sets up what critics have called a "vigilante" system in which any Texas resident can sue an abortion provider or anyone who aids and abets someone seeking to obtain an abortion. If they win, they could get a bounty of at least $10,000, which would come out of the pockets of the defendants. The mere threat of litigation has prompted abortion clinics in Texas to immediately limit their abortion services in compliance with the law.

I find this notion of outsourced "justice" interesting in its own right, but not when it promises to encroach upon the basic rights of others. Even just the financial aspect seems to poorly parameterize incentives here, i.e. the plaintiff would seem to have financial motivation to pursue such litigation, beyond whatever pro-life ethics they uphold.

Anyone here familiar with any high-order GOP national strategies, and how this may or may not figure into things? My dad just said he thinks they are trying to throw as many wrenches into the machine as possible, as a sort of guerrilla politics.

Admittedly, from where I'm standing, the future doesn't seem bright for the GOP, but that could just be a lack of information on my part.

interesting to think of justice following the same gamification route as the economy but your dads probably right to say its blanket wrench throwing and a little early to proclaim it a definite trend

Yeah I'd say so too, that its too early to say.

But it seems like an effective approach, if the GOP is trying to discredit the liberal, federal method of governance.

Really in that sense of aiming to discredit, the likes of state state-level interests here in the U.S. may eventually have some shared interests with non-U.S. state national actors who want to discredit liberal democracy, i.e. Russia. But I don't think things are quite there yet, even though the likes of Trump are ostensibly already enablers of Russia.

edit: found alternatives for "state" seeing as the term saw mixed usage here.

That Reuters article mentions that the majority of pregnancies are detected after six weeks, but is it still reliably detectable before that threshold? Just a simple, naive question.

Also something else I find odd is how the plaintiff would know if an abortion is executed after the six-week mark. They would have to be stalking the defendant, it seems. Or else they would have to litigate on the assumption that the abortion was executed after six weeks, and just hope that they're right.

The chaos that this entails seems more or less impossible not to foresee, and so one may conclude that it was intended. Especially if more states follow this lead, which the Biden admin seems devout in its intention to prevent.

You mean the cases where a child is ostensibly born into a situation that is unfit for their being raised, due to pro-life insistence, and how these cases aren't covered? Just a bit confused.

There was just a big piece on the Texas thing on Morning Joe, i.e. MSNBC.

And really perhaps the major cornerstone of the paranoid reactionary mythos (which can be read as a value judgement, but I think the words here are accurate) is the child sacrifice for eternal bureaucratic endowment or some such exoteric bestowal of power.

Cornerstone of the Q mythology, of course.
