We lost to Dortmund 2-1, given Turkish teams have been so shit in champions league I'll take that, quite pleased.

are you in a tizz again?

She's not. London is over, it's become New York. We're mourning the past. This city will never generate a really substantial new music again (uk drill obviously doesn't count) - UK drill is to chicago drill what Bleep and Bass was to house/techno.

You're horrified because musical developments now take place in cyberspace and not geographically, which requires an initiative that no other youth culture has had to strive for. Obviously it's reductive to say that the beatles or Joy Division (even) were mass imperialist pop music but they were promoted so as to be placed in the domain of easy access.

the reason why these styles sound so strange is because the sonic referants of the classical nuum have faded into folk memory and basically not extant as they originally were. Noone was buying belgian techno and gabba records in the grime era, much less trojan box sets. there was a memory of house, a dancehall influence, technoid atmospherics from jungle/dnb, but the nature of a continuum is to eventually dissolve. So when a german or a Polish dude makes hardcore or grime of course it's not going to sound like London, but simply because London doesn't sound like the london of 10,15,20 years as well. Factor into this the producers remove and its going to sound even more strange.

if new york can die so can london and surely gentrification / internetification / lockdown all killing any kind of localised scene is a point made many times by now.
