stellar industrial dubbing, one of his best bits in that mode:

record 1 of ‘Times High Fiction’ is great, as good as early cabs imo

I love how he/they are so great with layering, working for/with space, thru-and-despite the tinny sound quality. a dub of working for secret places, teasing out cavernous hollows under small chinks.

from the extra 12” that came with ‘The Crackdown’, crucial:

sound not best but only one not ridiculously pitched-up

most electroid cabs, i would guess. from ‘The Crackdown’, a fine album all round, of course:

now this one really does bear pitching up, all the way to about +4, trusme

poss fave from ‘Drinking Gasoline’ 2x12”, crisp, kicking ebm-indus all the way:

tart, eye-squinty sounds, just like u love em

…yeah ok, mix it out before the somewhat superfluous slappy bass comes in

Cabaret Voltaire - Yashar ( John Robie Mix 1 ) ( 1983 )

some would argue that the original mix on 2x45 is better, but this one worked in clubs full of guys with severe haircuts wearing long overcoats

i mean 2x45 obvs, but i UTTERLY FUCKING DIED playing this again the other day after long-time-no-hear, so gotta:

that humid, swaddling bass, pulling you under, fuckwow

one of mal’s best vocal things too

great sort of song-churn, creaking robots rise vibe:

recalls peak period ’minds somewhat, ‘empires and dance’ etc

one could go on and on, of course, but i’ll leave it with this fab filmic noizer:

Weird period as news filtered out. Too many works. On the anthology there are a range of compositions along a theme from early on. They’re cavernous, bubbling, wonky chemistry
