Linebaugh does tattoos

@linebaugh, if you were to do a tattoo for me, one that captured my personality and summarised the whole sorry thing in a few lines - what would you do? I'm seriously debating whether it's time to just give in and join the rest of the world... but I need a really good idea to tip me over the edge and actually do it, what should I go for? Cos for a first tattoo I feel it should be really carefully chosen. If I had 20 then the 21st might be something I chose quickly from a book I'd just enjoyed or whatever, but to actually break my duck and be the thing that makes cross-over to the inked side it would have to be something special... in some way at least. Something of special significance to me or my life, or perhaps special merely by dint of being extremely high-quality and unique... I dunno, I just feel that one's first tattoo should be in some sense the most important... does that make sense or am I over-thinking it?
i think you should get the little bell picture from the top right corner of dissensus with a red '5' written on it

But on my tattoo I could have any number, a massive one demonstrating unimaginable popularity. Such a tattoo would be incomprehensible to most people of course, which raises the question of whether I would prefer a tattoo with a meaning that was immediately obvious, or whether mystery is preferable... or if that should be beneath consideration; perhaps it's better to design a tattoo I like regardless of whether or not its meaning is obvious and then just deal with whatever arises from its obviousness or otherwise once it's in place.

I felt exactly the same @Leo - I was kind of like "Five! I mean, five, er oh yeah right, five is a fairly normal number isn't it, five or six... maybe seven".

Like a pic of Leo you mean? How youknow photorealisltic can tats be these days? Or maybe like a pic of the two of them doing something together would be better cos it wouldn't require that kind of realism I think for some reason.

Yeah... well, there are two cats, the elder was named after this fella which means that we normally call him either Leo or Leopold or various Russian diminutives such as Leopoldik. He was the runt of the litter and even now his younger brother will push him out of the way with ease and take his food unless we watch them at mealtimes. Leo also runs like fuck from the doorbell, the hoover, cars going past etc etc and so the picture below does not inaccurately represent his demeanour.

A couple of times we went out all night and then felt guilty on our return. Then one time we out for two full nights on the trot and we got in and felt really bad and decided that we must get him a companion before we next went out on a three day bender, it just wouldn't be fair to leave him totally on his own for that long. So we went back to the woman who sold us Leo and she had a new litter coming along which would be full brothers and sisters to Leopold - ie same mother and father - and we grabbed one of them randomly* and selected a name for him that sounded as though it was sort of in keeping with that of his older brother - so now we have Leopold and Karl.

The woman who sells them is from Ukraine. When we bought our flat in Portugal the estate agent was from Ukraine and she kept trying to make common cause with Liza in various ways including adding her to millions of expat type groups on FB etc for Russians and/or Ukrainians. Liza pretty much immediately left them all but not before noticing that there was this woman who was illegally breeding and selling cats all the time and getting her details.

*Or not entirely randomly. The breed is Scottish Fold crossed with British Short-hair. Scottish Folds have a weird folded ear which apparently makes them more desirable and expensive. However you cannot breed two folds together or there is potential for the weakness in the bone that causes the ears to fold to also occur in the legs making them crippled from birth. So the standard procedure is always to breed Scottish Fold with British Short-hair in which case approximately half of the litter will have the desired and lucrative folded ears. So our only specification was "please don't give us an expensive one with a folded ear".

It seems very odd to me to attach value to this genetic mutation. Scottish Folds have only existed since 1961 and some have suggested that with shorter ears a cat looks more like a person and that trait is what people subconsciously like hence their extra cost.

not to derail the thread, but we just (hopefully) resolved a cat emergency. had to take one of our cats (Peanut) to the emergency vet at midnight last night, he was really lethargic and not eating (a huge tell, since he's a porker who's main pastime is eating). he was dehydrated and had a temperature and elevated white cell count, had to leave him overnight, didn't get home until 2:30 am. just brought him home Sunday afternoon, noticeably perkier and eating again but temp still slightly high. they shot him up with antibiotics, hopefully on the mends.

also, it cost a fuckload! but what are you gonna do, he's family, and they took great care of him.

Have to admit that that would be one of my worst nightmares, no idea how to contact a vet at night here.... not even sure it's possible to be honest. Our normal vet Raquel is great, not just competent but you can tell straight off that she really cares for the animals. Also one time we went on holiday and she took Leo into her home and looked after him for us while we were away for about two weeks - and she did that completely for free! I guess everyone falls in love with Leo and she knew her kids would be happy playing with him for a week or two... maybe she even brought him into the surgery with her every day in fact, whatever the details, it was a very kind and lovely gesture and if an animal was ill I would totally trust her to go above and beyond to save it. But if she wasn't available and there was an emergency - my blood runs cold just thinking about it.

Donate the money to a charitable organization to de-worm a kid in Africa or cure cataract blindness. Family is an outdated conservative construct. Prioritizing your family members morally is anti-progressive, dangerously reactionary, and dare I say it "fascist." The next logical step is prioritizing your ethnic group. Disgusting regressive selfish behavior I thought more highly of you Leo
