Iv'e seen Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, but not in a long time.

Just two night ago I watched Black Dynamite, which while a parody was a blast to watch.

i saw sweetback a very long time ago. def of that counter cultural time. no idea if it is actually that good. is it? mvp always seemed a brilliant salesman. knew which buttons to press. i should see his other films though to make up my mind. ive heard bits of his music and cant say i really want to hear more of it but maybe its all genius.

I remember it was good in terms of staking out a new style, a style of a culture distinct from those the incumbent filmmakers at the time. I believe MVP was at the forefront of so-called blaxploitation.

OFC, he set the tone and template for blaxploitation, its very raw and unpolished in comparison to blaxploitation proper though. in my head its somewhere between something like easy rider, those weird sexploitation films, and idk, a fugitive on the run thriller, but just made in a really rough and not that accomplished way IIRC. i need to see it again really.
