or what?
why do we continue to fund these psychos, there is absolutely no reason why we need these expensive aggressive bastards in our advanced social configurations

one less obvious effect of the foreverwar on terror is how we have militarised our own countries - we now have trained and ptsded fighters idly loafing around our high streets and shopping malls looking for trouble, we could have abandoned them in the 20thC had we not chosen this tragic path

As me and @suspended thrashed out, noone is seriously considering mounting armed invasions in this day and age - they have been proved to be expensive follies, so there is no justification and also

the spread of small arms is an absolute disaster, the way that millions upon millions of guns have been shipped into the middle east and africa has been a crime against humanity, much of it carried out by armed forces of wealthy countries

the fancy expensive hardware is militarily ineffective in winning wars in the 21st C, and is a huge scam against civil society by the running dogs of the arms trade and our political classes

and furthermore, why should veterans automatically get accorded reverence and respect? it should be the conscientious objectors

It would seem the posture of force suffices in many of the ways that the execution of force has proven to, i.e. deterrence. But the posture requires the force in reserves, otherwise it would be a bluff. But I am of the notion that there is a more or less global consensus that war is not a tenable exercise of power disputes any more, seeing how it would pose a major financial risk and jeopardize virtually every corner of our economic reality.

Especially 3D printed guns without serial numbers, I gather.

This question is only worth framing as a coordination problem. What is your plan to ensure every group of organized of peoples on Earth puts down their weapons in perpetuity?
Yeah short of a miraculous global summit of dialectical diplomacy, it would seem leverage is necessary for that kind of disarmament. And leverage isn’t limited to the promise of force, as we see with sanctions and economic warfare/negotiations.

This is partially true, but wars are not always fought on economically rational premises.

that is a cold war era dilemma :ROFLMAO:

current tech and international relations makes coordination trivial
the problem is gigantic vested interests

anyway, abolishing the armed forces isnt even the same as disarmament

the armed forces and their military industrial networks are inherently toxic and anti-life
