Maybe you're right - I could think of anything to rebut yer claim - but I've at least i've sought out his recent stuff and it's felt on the right side of ok
its not dire. but its more personality led. its wiley, its not 'the culture' or 'the universe' or 'the gods' or 'london' speaking through wiley. hes no longer a vessel for larger forces

That's a good way of putting it and speaks to wider point - all these artists getting frustrated that their improved technical skills are leading to diminishing results

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Didn't he go slack around the same time though? Not that I'm against slackness but it must be more than coincidence

I quite like the two Prodigy HNIC albums but Mobb Deep really did get shit

I bought the G Unit album they put out in one of those cheap CD shops like Fopp or something, couple of good beats but pretty depressing really

Maybe that era of rap is just prone to rapid descent

they got shit but if you tried to delineate exactly how and why i think it would prove difficult becasue the formula didnt change. it got a little bit more lumpen, a little bit more monotone, it got crass and one note but it was essentially the same formula.

Just losing hunger maybe, you've got more money, more detached from the struggle/street

Bit cliche but that rap was so obsessed with being raw, it ebbs away and so do you

Lots on the post-punk world...

PIL, although thankfully they/he stopped releasing albums awhile ago. but still.

Was going to say New Order but their last one "Music Complete" was pretty good.

A Certain Ratio: emblematic of great post-punk bands who shouldn't have kept trudging along, why are they still releasing new material? Same with the Stranglers.
